Abstract: (clear summary of work)
The research paper aims to enlighten the readers on the need of practicing and the use of English language in the telecom sector in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. There is a need to study the English language to do our trade with the outside world and when we travel abroad, English is the widely used means of communication.
The official language of Saudi Arabia is Arabic. English, being known as the universal language, plays an important role in Saudi telecoms companies. Saudi Arabia is home not only to Saudis or Arabic speaking nationals; it is a melting pot of other nationalities such as, Chinese, British, French, and Asians. We have these other nationalities working within the telecom sector either as Engineers, Support staff or even Senior Management positions and it is very rare that you will find them converse in Arabic either spoken or written.
The past three decades of telecoms industry in Saudi Arabia have undergone drastic changes in order to cope up with the modern innovations of the 21st Century. As years passed, change is constant in order to cope up with other telecoms competitor. Diverse, talented, and highly-skilled individuals compose the telecoms sector. As such, language barrier is a hindrance in achieving a common goal.
Nowadays, majority of companies are applying for International Standards accreditation to be at par with the rest of the world in terms of services. For the telecoms industry to survive and cope with change it has to be within International standards or ISO accredited. English is the mode of communication in applying for accreditation and this is applicable to all.
