The Energy Cooperative is basically a non-profit organization which is into providing knowledge about energy, latest technology, and public forum for complaints. Non- profit organizations are organization that uses the revenue generated in accomplishing their respective goals and not for earning profits or distributing dividends. Ethics is one of the five branch of philosophy, which includes framing, defending and suggesting concepts of right or wrong conduct. However Business ethics focuses on how morals apply to the business organizations and behaviors. The ethical concerns in Energy Cooperative case has to do with conflict of interest. Each member of the organizations board of directors has signed an agreement that, while being on the board, they will act without prejudice, with no allegiance to any corporation specifically. Such codes of conduct and the consequences of breaking them, then need to be communicated frequently to the members. Energy cooperative should clearly define their percussions that for not holding to the directors agreement. The main ethical issue seems to be related to the last paragraph and whether or not the board of directors can use their position on the board of the Energy Cooperative for personal gains by stating "I am calling as director of the Energy Cooperative" -the board of directors are self-employed consultants with no allegiance (duty) to any particular company. Therefore, the ethical issue is: Is this a conflict of interest, where the board of directors would be using their positions for personal gains? Or, since they have signed a statement to the effect that they have no duty to any particular company, does this negate the conflict of interest? In other words, the members of the broad directors would be using their position to gain new clients if when calling their personal potential clients, they would be able to state,"
