I chose this quote because it tells us that killing animals happens faster than someone gathering knowledge. Next, this book relates to society because many animals in the world are becoming endangered today. An example of this is the Bonobos from the book. Also, there are many problems in the world today just like the war in Congo. Around the world there are Army’s like the one in this book, that do not care what they are shooting at or killing, even if it is a poor animal that has done nothing wrong.
Summary The most powerful of all environmental protection laws, the Endangered Species Act (ESA), is under fire from two directions. No one seems to be happy with it, on one side scientists and activists say it fails to protect hundreds of species that may be headed for extinction because of lack of funding or political support. Property rights advocates say the law unfairly harms farmers, ranchers, and developers who have on their land what some deride as an inconsequential bug or weed. Others say that local governments should have more control. Some species have done very well, since the law was enacted, including them the peregrine falcon, the American alligator, the bald eagle, and the California condor.
Transition: Let’s begin by first looking at how animals have rights of their own. [Body] I. Animal rights are as important as human rights. a. Matt Prescott, director for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals “Change is sometimes difficult. But in a country that values justice, we owe it to ourselves to continue learning and expanding our sphere of respect for others who are not exactly like us but who still deserve to be protected from exploitation.
For this reason alone, I believe that humans should treat animals with more decency. By seeing their interaction with their own kin in nature, we need to realize that they also have a purpose in life. Although we may not understand them completely, animals share a lot of similar traits with humans. For example, about a portion of them are classified as mammals that reproduce just like us. Thus, we should have a sense of compassion towards them because they
9), as Ehrenreich calls them, are as deadly as beastly predators. The first thing that will come to most of our minds while thinking about human predators is animalistic type predators; however, we seem to forget that there is a much smaller and deadlier predator that awaits us: micro-organisms. Micro-organisms that are very much capable of causing diseases that can kill the human race. Disease has been a predator even long ago with the outbreak of Black Plague in 1347 and in only four years killing 20 to 30 million Europeans. However, Hassan 2 still being a threat more recently, where in Africa 1.5 million
Firstly, the Everglades are an important ecosystem which reduces flooding and replenish aquifers but human actions are having a huge impact on the landscape. The rapid urban and agricultural development in the area has decreased the size of the wetlands dramatically which affects the organisms found there. This is especially important as it is home to several endangered species. Not only that, but invasive species that threaten existing wildlife by preying on or competing with them. According to Everglades.org, they’ve “contributed to nearly 70 percent of extinctions in the United States” and are the “primary cause of species endangerment.” The water itself is a major cause of decline to the area, firstly because of poor water management leading to water levels being too low or too high at the wrong times has caused a decline in many species.
When their is a build up of waste can mix in with groundwater and runs offs leading to killing fish and contamination. Several countries such as Japan, Australia, Canada and Europe have all banned the use of antibiotics and hormones on their farms and are still able to produce a healthy meat, in the United States it is legal and therefore used in mass quantities. In factory farming not all animals are free to roam, and able to live a happy life. Chickens can be kept on grass but are crowded in large flocks. They are debeaked or a third of their beak is amputated with a heated blade.
Individuals who live in the environment has behavioral issues and things need to change for the better of the environment. Individuals take time for beliefs of the environmental ethics. To use the five methods for individuals to handle environmental issues there should be more education on what can help them with their change of beliefs for environmental ethics. First method is awareness of the behavior of the society and the challenges of the environment. Contemplation can help individuals engage into the issue for they can be aware of what's going on in their society.
In addition, “most criminals believe that illegal aliens are afraid to call the cops, so they are the victims” (Griffin, CQ Researcher). The illegals are petrified that the police will figure out that they are not citizens of the United States, and do not want to suffer the consequence of getting arrested or even deported back to their homeland. With illegal immigrants being pulled over by cops, participating in gangs, and even being easy prey for criminals, they are a reason why the crime rates have been increasing in our nation. Pursuing this further, the illegal aliens do not have or even pay taxes; therefore they are a drain to our economy. It has been said that, “Mexican’s in America send a total of billions of dollars out of the United States and back to Mexico each year” (Western Voices World News).
Several incidents have been reported over the past years that make people question the continued captivity of orcas. Some of these incidents include, failed pregnancies, illnesses, premature deaths and sometimes even attacks on trainers or human beings. Over the past few years aggression towards the orca trainers has increased rapidly. Many feel that this is due to the unnatural environment they have been placed in. When comparing orcas held in captivity to orcas that are able to live freely, their behaviors have vast differences.
