Did you know that “There is no conclusive data to show that school uniforms solve any of the problems they were created to solve”? (“Point: The High Cost of School Uniforms”). Wearing uniforms is not required in all PA public schools, but in some schools it is. Many people (mainly parents) believe it to be that no PA public school should be required to wear uniforms. Others should agree as well.
Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7. John and Mary are having an impasse with prayer in schools. The First Amendment protects both the believers and non-believers by being neutral about belief. Children and adolescences have the right to choose to pray voluntarily. “The Supreme Court has ruled that students are allowed to organize, voluntarily, religious clubs -- which can include prayer and Bible study—at public schools, just as they might any other kind of club (Mosser, 2010, pa. 2.3)” Yes, we should keep religion and school separate, but the children has the choosing to do it voluntary.
They soon filed a suit in a New York State court to banned the prayer, they kept on insisting that the use of this prayer in the public schools was contrary to their own and their children's beliefs, religions, or religious practices. The separation of church and state says that government should stay out of the business of enforcing any religious activities no matter what the case is. The Board of education's prayer is quite simple and it violates the 1st Amendment and because of this should be banned
Notes for “Whose Lathe?” by Ursula K. Le Guin Thesis 1: School boards should not have the power to ban books based on personal beliefs and comfort level. Thesis 2: While choosing books for students is important for their education, giving them the freedom to make their own choices, even in such small instances, surpasses that importance. Thesis 3: The concept of free choice is far more humane than that of censorship. Final Thesis: Censorship placed upon school books rids students of their choice in reading thus school boards should not have the audacity to ban books solely because they do not accord with their personal opinions and levels of comfort. Proof: * “In discussion, teachers pointed out that since it is the policy of the Washougal School District to assign an alternative book to any student who objects on any grounds to reading an assigned one, the attempt to prevent a whole class from reading a book was an attempt to change policy, replacing free choice by censorship” – pg, 257, 1st paragraph * “Censorship, here or in Russia or wherever, is absolutely anti-democratic and elitist.
Landon Stewart Mrs. Luker Government A4 10/23/12 Cons of School Uniforms There are many schools in the U.S. that require their students to wear uniforms, and there are more that don't. I believe that school uniforms should not be required for a few reasons. Uniforms take away from a person's individual identity and freedom to express himself or herself. They can be costly to people depending on a family’s financial status. School uniforms can also be a very uncomfortable fashion that students would not take a liking to.
CON Vaccines 1. Governments should not have the right to intervene in the health decisions parents make for their children. 31% of parents [37] believe they should have the right to refuse mandated school entry vaccinations for their children, according to a 2010 survey by the University of Michigan. 2. Many parents hold religious beliefs against vaccination.
The reason that students should not have to take the exit exam to graduate from high school is because standardized tests only evaluate certain subjects, tests do not truly reflect what the person has learned, and tests do not do anything to prepare kids for the future. Is it important to require a minimum standard for all kids to achieve before graduating from high school? Proponents of the exam feel that it is. They feel that if students know they will be
Inevitably, I will teach a student who was not raised in a household that celebrates Christmas. If I do not handle such an occurrence in manner that is respectful to the student and his or her beliefs, it could result in the student feeling like they have done something wrong. In reality, I would be the one “in the wrong” by failing to take their upbringing into consideration before passing judgment. I will have to make certain to never make any student feel like his or her actions are wrong merely because I have failed to remain an objective
Better alteration, solutions Since the stabilization of school administration of NISB, members of the school are considering potential enforcement of school uniforms. NISB is in the process of adopting curriculums and teaching methods of neighboring international schools and therefore reconsidering the enforcement of school uniforms. However, according to Key (2007), school uniforms do not provide significant improvements in both academic achievements and behaviors of the students but act as burden for numerous parents and violate certain rights of students. Hence, school uniforms should not be enforced in NISB for further improvements and benefits of the students. When it comes to legal issues, dress code and school uniform policies violate students’ rights and freedoms of self-expression.
Does standardized testing improve education in public schools? Terrie Lynn Bittner the author of Homeschoolers Should Not Take Standardized Test would argue that it has not been proven that these tests help public school students. The author states that testing is nothing more than routine memorization and not true learning. So, homeschoolers shouldn’t have to take standardized tests because the parents do not need testing to see their children’s progress. With homeschooling, the parents are the ones teaching their children, so they know their progress, strengths and weaknesses.
