Abstract There are numerous employment opportunities when it comes to the graphic design industry. Some of which include employment within an advertising agency, an in house design department, and as a self-employed freelance designer. As with most careers, each have their own positive and negative aspects, and these are important to consider when deciding which scenario is most beneficial for each individual. In any of these positions, adding value to an employer is vital when one has the desire to grow within the company and expand knowledge of the industry. Employers of the Creative Design World Graphic design is creating visual communication using imagery, photographs, text, space, and much more. It is used anywhere that a person has a message to convey. For instance, in books, web sites, billboards, magazine and newspapers. One with an interest in the design world can find employment within various organizations such as advertising agency, in house design, or even as a self-employed freelance designer. Advertising Agency Benefits There are many positive aspects when working with an advertising agency, whether it is a small organization, or a large one. Typically, one is tasked with one or two projects at a time. This allows for an adequate amount of time to be devoted to each project in order to produce quality work. When working for an advertising agency it is more likely that one will encounter a wider variety of other creative thinkers, which not only benefits when collaborating on projects, but also when obtaining honest and informative criticisms (DeSetto, 2009). In addition, a continual paycheck is another benefit of working with an agency.
