Eden Robinson Reading Response In the short story “Queen of the North” the author uses a technique of juxtaposing various “snapshots” of events. I think the author uses this because it helps the reader understand why Adelain is the way she is and why she does the things she does. It also helps gives the reader clear snap shots that should stand out to the reader. One of the snap shots that particularly stood out to me was scene of when Adelain was in the living room with her Uncle Josh watching sesame street. During that scene while Adeline was watching Sesame Street her Uncle Josh undoes his pants and rapes her.
The novel opens with two purposefully placed epigraphs. These epigraphs encourage the reader to read allegorically and inform them immediately that there is more to this story than a traditional fairy tale “what seems to be an untruth is really a hidden truth”. The opening chapter shows Becca as a young girl with her older sisters and Gemma telling them the story of Briar Rose. The next chapter then alternates the present, grown up Becca going with her sisters to visit the now, elderly sick Gemma. These alternating chapters and flashbacks provide small links and clues to events and information that Becca is unlocking in her current day quest.
Her use of imagery and personification throughout the writing draws the reader into the sick mind of a young mother struggling to find herself again and broaches the issue of feminism. According to the Online Literature website, Charlotte Perkins Gilman was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1860. Her father, a librarian, abandoned the family early on and Charlotte was often looked after by her Great aunt and uncle, Harriet and Henry Beecher. Henry was a social reformer and Harriet was the author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Due to the strong social and literary influences, Charlotte was drawn to literature and began writing at a young age.
The Affect of Narration on Character Development Great Literary works have for years brought great enjoyment to readers and has sparked many discussions. These works give the audience the benefit of allowing them to succumb inside the story, either from multiple perspectives or a direct single point of view. However, no matter the case, the direction of the stories and development of the characters are directly related to the development of the narration. The narration of any story is the main drive behind the success and the gateway for a reader to succumb themselves inside . I believe that the type of narration of a great literary work is purposefully placed to show two cases: the flaws of a great character, or the hidden good conscious

Now, in these 4 minutes I will briefly, yet, thoroughly explain how these techniques can give you a greater understanding of the texts and hopefully help you on your upcoming exam.
There are two plots in the novel, you have the present day plot which follows Becca on her search for Gemma’s past and the fairy tale plot, which follows Gemma’s telling of Briar Rose to her 3 granddaughters. Story telling plays an important role to Becca, Gemma and Josef and they play a significant part in the novel. Everyone in the story has a story to tell. Becca’s story is about her going to Poland to find out the truth about her Grandmothers past,
“A Rose for Emily,” by William Faulkner, was an interesting story about an abnormal woman in the community that everyone talked about. “We Real Cool,” by Gwendolyn Brooks, remind me of the stories my grandfather use to tell me about his community he grew up in. Reading literature is a great way to get in touch with yourself
