; Questions that can not be answered, even with modern day technology, the aid of science and the ever-growing knowledge of the world; but answers that nonetheless are needed to make sense of and give meaning and purpose to life. The origin of all religions is connected to the timeless search of our existence to humankind. One of the most significant ways in which religion creates meaning for its followers is through the understanding of the purpose of mankind. E.g. Death is understood as the end of mortality, but what people believe comes after varies with each religion.
The main reason Lawrence Cunningham and John Kelsay use a phenomenological view point towards religion is for a better understanding. A better understand on a number of aspects for multiple different religions. The phenomenological approach helps them accomplish this by letting them look at religion in an un-bias way and be totally accepting of that religion’s traditions and ideas of sacred. They state in the text, “At its simplest, a phenomenological approach leads to an effort to understand religious thought and behavior from the point of view of the religious person.”, (Cunningham and Kelsay 4) this means that if that person says that a certain book or object is sacred we take them at their word that that book or object is sacred. Phenomenology is also geared towards creating a framework for understanding religious traditions.
They used a very powerful ethos. By using their religion and quoting the bible. The people from the past were very religious and the bible had a great affect on them. They used the bible to gain their publics trust. And they said, "If we desegregate, violence will break."
In a world growing ever more diverse and globalized it is more important than ever to understand and tolerate the views of others, including their spiritual believes. For that we should learn about the basics of world religions. Religion is any specific, organized system of belief about deity, often involving rituals, a code of ethics, and a philosophy of life. Many religions have narratives, symbols, and sacred histories that are intended to explain the meaning of life and/or to explain the origin of life or the Universe. Many religions may have organized behaviors, clergy, a definition of what constitutes adherence or membership, holy places, and scriptures.
Why did he do it? Was it just because of his love for Anne Boleyn? We don’t exactly know but we do know that there were a lot of reasons behind it. In this essay I will take a closer look at this incident, from most important things that caused it to least important things. I think first in importance for Henry was religion.
Religion helped set laws, and basically rules that everyone should follow. Religion taught society in different ways ranging from culture, behavior and government. An example of this was portrayed in the school system. The most important thing in school was Religion, every student was expected to read the Bible, and they were expected to repeat anything from the top of their head. Interactions
I have successfully read Crisis counseling: A guide for Pastors and Professionals, now its time for practical application. While reading this book I thought of several different ministries within my local church assembly that could benefit from this book. Especially since my church is located in the heart of a very high risk community, I believe it is important to educate our ministry on how to deal with crises as well as to show them and guide them through the process. Showing the community that the church is still relevant and that we care about the well-being of the people is how we all can cope with and get through crises. As stated before the plan of action is simple, however, we as the body of Christ have got to become more sensitive to the needs of the people and the one of the ways we can do that is through counseling.
Religions like Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism are important in the world and have been very popular because of the promise they have. These religions promised salvation to all people even the poor. This caused many people to follow these religions in order to not suffer in their after life. Even though some religions have changed or produced other religions, their bases are the same. Christianity for example has many different types of people like Catholics, Protestants among others.
For the millions of people who practice this religion, it is a way of life that encompasses all aspects of life including family, social life, politics, business, art, and health behaviors. The sacred scriptures contain instructions on these aspects of life and have a strong influence on art and drama. While the ascetic practices of yoga are a well-known aspect of Hinduism, family life is also considered a sacred duty” (Wenner 2001). Hinduism is a way of life for many people and not a religion. They believe in the reincarnation of one’s spirit into another life form.
On the other hand, Muslims practice the Qur’an and practice prayers by attending the Mosque. Since culture is learned, so is religion. Religion can be considered as a way that explains, validates, comforts and explains the world. Clifford Geertz (1966) defined religions as a ‘system of symbols, which act to establish powerful, pervasive and long-lasting mood and motivation in men’ This means, that religion has an emotional power, which is essential in human experience. Moreover, religion meets the deep needs that humans have to better understand the world beyond immediate experience, to seek comfort and to be part of a community.
