These two articles work together to show how balancing family, marriage, and work is very difficult whether it be unrealistic expectations of co-parenting or mismanaging anger. In Hope Edelman’s “The Myth of Co-Parenting: How It Was Supposed to Be. How it Was” she expresses vividly how she feels about her misinterpretation of married life. Before she was married to John, she had a “vague assumption” (Edelman 284) that co-parenting was an attainable goal. Following an intensive screening and selection process the donor endures a few weeks of invasive medical procedures. First the donor and the woman who will carry the child must coordinate their menstrual cycles. Typically the donor and the recipient take birth-control pills, followed by shots of a synthetic hormone such as Lupron; the combination suppresses ovulation and puts their cycles in sync. After altering her cycle the donor must enhance her egg supply with fertility drugs in the same way an infertile woman does when trying to conceive. I believe teenage girls should have access to birth control pills because teenage girls should be allowed to take responsibility for their own fertility and make sure they do not get pregnant. Also, it is cheaper for the government to pay for confidential birth control for teenage girls than to pay for millions of unwanted babies or abortions. Teenage girls should have access to birth control pills because it’s their own fertility and whether or not parents agree, teenage girls are going to have sex without their
