For example, one thing Ray Bradbury criticizes is society’s dependency on technology. The Hadley family has such a technological house that they don’t know how to do anything themselves. The family has become completely dependent on the technology in the household. George Hadley threatens to take away all the technology and Peter whines: “That sounds dreadful! I have to tie my own shoes instead of letting the shoe tier do it?
But Kozol makes some big important points why being illiterate can hurt the person in all parts of life. Kozol states that, “They cannot read traffic signs and, while they often learn to recognize and decipher symbols, they cannot manage street names which they haven't seen before” (Kozol, 4), this is like being trapped inside your own world. If someone cannot read something simple as a stop sign they just have no life to be living. What good are they to the society if a person cannot read? Everything these days counts on mostly technology, being able to understand and read technology is a huge part of today’s society.
Everyone needs electronics in their life from a simple cell phone to a smart car. We need electronics today for the most important things today, like contacting those who we love and care about but can’t see them because they are so far away. We also need it to help those who aren’t able to support themselves like an elevator that helps those who can’t walk as well as other. These types of things play a huge part in our society, and shouldn’t be changed. Being isolated from love ones for a day would hurt someone, but not seeing them for two years straight is crazy.
• Students are telling others about how unsafe it is to drink and drive because you are not just risking your own life but many others. • Students are trying to show others how important it is to stay of the roads when drinking. http://www.sadd.org/teenstoday/parentsdriving.htm 4. Investigate the problem of teenage suicide. - What steps can be taken by schools to prevent this problem?
Technology Drugs, sex, and alcohols are the big no-no in our society. They say that it’ll sabotage one’s future, but what about the daily utensils we’re using every day? Every one of us uses technology every day, every second of our life; yet we don’t know the harm it brings to our society. From just wearing glasses to playing video games on your PC, we are the slaves of technology. Why is technology so harmful to us?
In Geek Love, by Katherine Dunn, we see through the Bineski family how disability is actually perceived as something positive and extraordinary rather than negative. It is safe to say that the Bineski family (mainly the children) would not be happy or feel special if they were non-disabled. Before I start on my argument, I believe it necessary to explain the difference between disability and impairment since people often get the two confused. Disability is defined in two ways- as “a lack of adequate power, strength, or physical or mental ability” and as “what you cannot do because the environment and social attitudes block you from doing it.” Impairment is a “condition of your body”. The impairment is not usually what is disabling, but the environmental and attitudinal barriers are.
Driving is a serious thing, we can not drive for fun, because it is dangerous and it affects many people’s lives. Most of the teenagers have a phone and they get calls or messages from their friends or someone else. They will take their eyes off the road and possible kill someone. Teenagers are still studying in schools, they have their homework and they have a lot of exams to prepare for. Many do not really have time to practice driving on the road so they do not have really good experience.
Bradbury thinks that with technology surrounding us, people will stop reading books. If people stop reading books they will forget about things that are extremely important, which include history, how and why people act in different ways, how life began, and other things that are important today but with technology they are going to fade away. Another thing that could happen if people let technology dominate them is that they wouldn't be able to share their ideas or beliefs. All the new ideas people would bring into the world would be worth nothing because technology would be the most important issue. Technology could also damage our ways of communicating.
This is why focusing on more than friends and partying will help you work towards your future lifestyle goals, but education is the main component out of all. 1 wrong decision can not only affect you, it affects your family and community. You can’t trust everyone, and can’t depend on just anyone. Not everyone is your friend and most are quick to get you in trouble or bail on you when you’re facing it. Friends become distractions that take us away from focusing on school and other goals in life.
