The Effects of Music on Everyday Life Andy Olson Mrs. Mueller Composition 4A 11-17-13 When you’re feeling stressful, having a hard time concentrating, or you’re not having the greatest day ever, do you play music to help ease these everyday issues? You probably answered yes to at least one, if not all, of these situations. It has been proven that listening to music as a part of your daily routine, can have a profound impact on easing the many challenges many of us face on a daily basis. However, different genres of music will affect people in different ways. No matter what angle you look at this, you will discover that music can have both a positive and a negative effect on someone’s overall mood, their stress levels, concentration, social interactions with others, and it also affects the value system. Different genres of music will affect people’s moods differently. The particular situation you are in may also have a great impact on the music you listen to. In this day and age, there is a new form of medicine emerging known as music therapy. It involves the use of music to treat medical conditions such as depression. In a study done by researchers at the National Center for Biotechnology Information, they found out that Rock music can make someone aggravated, and even experience more fatigue in some cases. In my research I figured out that, on average, teenage males listen to classic rock groups such as AC/DC or Queen, to brighten their mood. Typically, teenage females enjoy listening to pop music and sometimes country to put them in a better mood. On the flipside, both older males and females enjoy music that falls under the category of ‘Easy Listening’ on Pandora. According to my mother, “Frank Sinatra and Vince Gill help put me in a better mood. Whenever I’m having a bad day, I’ll just put on my Sinatra music, or my Vince Gill CD, and
