Max Gupton English 100-170 Essay 3 It is obvious that, currently, Americans are fat and are only getting fatter. You can hear it on the news or read it in the paper just about every day. However, it is evident thatthere are many problems and health risks that are related to eating fast food. Many people are wondering: what are the effects of fast food on its consumers? This is obviously not a very healthy food choice. After finding out how unhealthy just one cheeseburger is it is easy to see that fast food plays a huge role in why the U.S. is so obese. Over the past 20 years obesity rates in the U.S. have skyrocketed. In 1980 the national average for obese adults was 15 percent. In 1991 there wasn’t a state in the U.S. that had an obesity rate of over 20 percent. Currently, 31 states have obesity rates surpassing 25 percent and 49 states have obesity rates surpassing 20 percent. The percentage of overweight children is at or above 30 percent in 30 states; this rate has tripled since 1980. Clearly America is not on the right track
