Since using the Internet, I have noticed that when I look through magazines, I LOOK through them not read them. I scan the stories I find interesting, I read the captions on the pictures instead of reading the whole story. When reading movie reviews, I look for the synopsis not the full summary, not because I don’t want a spoiler alert but because I don’t wasn’t to read the whole thing. Using the computer, I usually will have multiple tabs open and will go between them and not do one thing at a time. And now I find it hard to focus on one subject at a time.
If technology continues to develop at this rate, people will slowly begin to depend on it just as much as Mildred did. People nowadays forget about the conventional things in life and allow themselves to be consumed by a world of technology. People have now begun to rely on technology such as portable devices for entertainment. This increase in use of technology will cause more people to stop reading for fun and begin experimenting with these new gadgets. Even though these devices come with many ways to read, most people do not use this to their advantage.
Their necks and legs are chained and they are forced to stare at a wall. If they step out into the sun, they do not see things as clearly as they are in reality. If kids were stuck in a cave like this, except instead staring at a TV, they would eventually go blind and have several health issues. Obesity is likely to occur in this case because the captured children would not be able to move around and do any physical exercise to maintain healthy bodies. In another article, The Futile Pursuit of Happiness, by Jon Gertner, the author states that humans always assume the outcome of an event will make them happier than they really are.
They have also become much cheaper for example social networking is completely free. This type of communication has enabled us to strengthen relations with people which we haven't been able to do so well in the past, which has increased globalisation. The communication between people is vital for TNC’s especially when they are working in foreign country like TNC’s do. Therefore TNC’s can now use this technology to communicate through other countries in a effective way and widen their global influence. This is further encouraged due to the fact that there is cheap labour in LEDC’s so TNC’s are likely to move over there.
Less bulky than paper records to store.Easy to gather information. | Lack of skills may restrict communication.Unauthorised access may result in personal information being seen.
The way technology has driven the last half of a century has changed life astronomically. Everyday people crave and desire the next big thing on the market. Whether it is the hybrid car or touch screen phone, the need for something more leaves room in life for unhappiness when those items are not obtained. Lao-Tzu strongly argued that when people do not want anything, they are okay with living simple. This is beyond the truth of today.
Society tells the people that television is destructive; excessive watching of a screen destroys brain cells and may even shorten lives. However, there has been scientific evidence that shows watching TV is actually beneficial for and can maybe even increase the viewer’s intellectual capacities. Two authors, Carolyn Ziel and Steven Johnson, explore this idea in their essays, “Why Watching
Imagine a kid solving a puzzle -which will help to develop his brain- instead of watching TV; also this kind of activities will keep him safe from violence. Ratings: I have seen a TV channel specifying violence ratings, I cannot recall the channel but every time I see it has violence on it I change the channel. We shouldn’t have to watch a program to see if it is violent. Sometime we start watching a program just to see if it appropriate or not to watch and then we realized that even it has violence we watched the entire TV show I think ratings will work just
And last but not least single people start isolating themselves from society. And depend on Technology to look for their basic needs instead of like working from home, shopping online instead of the grocery store as well as going to college or university and finding your potential spouse online. Technology might be useful to advance yourself in your career and but if you decide to use Email or Skype or Instant Messenger to speak to anyone and completely focus on your friends and forget about your family. You can be missing out on any outings with your family and the fun you would have. Like in the following quote from Alex Lickerman author of Happiness in this world mentioned in an article in Psychology Today mentioned: “According to Alex Lickerman the author of Happiness in this world and published in an article in Psychology Today titled the effects of Technology on Relationships Balance time on the Internet with time spent with friends and family.
Time to Do Everything But Think Changes in the lifestyle of almost every human being have taken place over the last couple of years because of technology. People seem to not be able to escape technology as it becomes a part of everyday life as time progresses. As advances in technology occur it will become inevitable for the majority of people to not use technology, but there will be few people who will not use technology. For the most part technology is a good thing, but there are downsides to technology as well. In David Brooks’ article titled, “Time to Do Everything But Think,” Brooks discusses a lifestyle were people will live in a state of “perfect wirelessness.” Meaning people would use only wireless devices as part of their everyday lifestyle.
