Different people adjust to different strategies. Most people adjust to more than one strategy. We just need to identify which ones through assessment. How the Awareness of Learning Strategies Influence Teaching and Learning It is important for teachers to understand what a student is going through in their process of learning new information. If you know the learning style of the student, it is easier to convey the message you are trying to convey.
WHAT KIND OF LEARNER AM I? One of the most prominent theories on learning styles is that by David Kolb, he proposes that learning is a cyclic process, it is whereby a student goes through a few stages that determines what learning style suits him best and how he likes to learn. In this essay, I will talk about David Kolb’s experiential learning cycle; I will explore the four stages of learning, his learner types and how my preferences relate to Kolb’s theory. I am a Diverger; therefore, I usually analyze a problem before giving my opinions. I like to investigate and see a situation from different angles, and I will support this by giving examples from past experiences, furthermore, I will reflect on how I can become a better learner.
There are four different types of VARK learning styles, Visual, Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic. The VARK Learning assessment aims to determine the best way an individual learns, but can also be seen through as an individual’s personality, and behavior in everyday life. The VARK learning style assessment has assessed this student as a kinesthetic learner. Now that we know this students learning style we can go over the Kinesthetic Learning Style, this type of learner is known as the active learner. She learns best not from explanation or direction; but from simply just doing it.
VARK is a magnificent tool online that simply helps identify the different types of learning styles that are out there and helps guide individuals in the right path as far as learning goes. VARK stands for Visual, Aural, Read/write, and last but not least Kinesthetic. Visual, Aural, and Read/write mean exactly what they say. These individuals learn best by doing just that. Visual learners need to see things in order to learn, aural learners are better when they hear the information, and reading/writing learners perform best reading information and writing it down.
I will spend a set amount of time on each class certain days. On the days I do not schedule for classes, if I have free time, I can catch up on any assignment I need to. The way I am juggling school and family responsibilities will be to set aside time for school in the morning while my children are at school and my husband is at work. By doing so, I will have plenty of time for my family responsibilities in the afternoon and at night. When I get a job I will change my school time to after the kids have gone to bed, so it doesn’t interfere with my family time.

Personal Development Planning can be defined as a process that helps you to think about your own learning, performance and/or achievements and to plan for your personal, educational and career development. PDP, therefore, makes you aware of how you are progressing and this awareness brings a number of benefits. For example, it will be easier to identify to tutors areas of concern and it will help you to demonstrate to prospective employers that, through PDP, you have acquired strategies that make you a desirable, well motivated and focussed individual. Furthermore, PDP processes can motivate you when your interest starts to wane.
I can learn about information that is trying to be taught by using hands-on problem-solving. I am improving my ability to be become a thinker by finding time to reflect independently on new information and looking for opportunities to work independently. I try to be sensitive to individuals’ feelings by giving positive feedback. I present constructive criticism in a way that I hope others would not take offense to. Knowing others strengths in an online learning environment helps me understand how they think.
The second reasons to why we are studying different learning styles is because of personal reasons such as to improve your self-confidence and self-esteem, to learn how best to use your brain which can never be a bad thing, gain insight into your strengths and weaknesses, learn how to enjoy learning more, develop your motivation for learning and maximising your natural abilities and skills. Learning Styles Theories The different learning style theories there are to enhance you learning skills are VAC, Belbin, Kolb, Gardener and Honey and Mumford. The VAC (VAK or VARK) learning style theory is one of the most common and widely used categorisations of the various types of learning styles
Identifying what type of personality is present enables students develop study plans that are best suited for success. As important as it is to understand personal intelligence and personality types, it may become more important to understand the intelligence and personality types of your peers. Group activities and discussions are an integral part of the distance learning. In order for all students to get the most out of these settings, an understanding of how others think, process and react is a must. Understanding the strengths of fellow students allows one to improve areas of weakness by absorbing what is imparted by fellow students.
An active learner is one who understands new information by doing something with it, and they strive to take a greater responsibility for their own learning, and they take advantage of extra credit opportunities. This fits my learning style very much so. When I am learning something I take what I learn and apply to my homework in that specific subject or use it in other subjects. Also I take responsibility for my own learning by going to get help on what I do not understand, and I always jump at the extra credit when it is available. An intuitive learner is one who prefers to take information in an abstract form such as ideas, images or ideas.
