Since 1st September 2013, I was registered as UTHM’s student. And start from last three weeks ago, I was entered Foundation English class. My lecturer is Miss Suzilla. Before entering Foundation English lecture, I was registered under Academic English class because my Malaysian University English Test(MUET) is band 2. Nevertheless it does not make me feel down. I know there is no such a short-cut to master in English. I have to learn and practice more on speaking.
In my class, I have many new friends who came from different places in Malaysia and they are came different faculty. It is hard for me to mingle around with them.
I have entered Foundation English class for three weeks. For first week, we did some ‘ice-breaking’ session. During ‘ice-breaking’, we need to present our ages, education level, which town we came from and lowest mark in MUET in front of class member. Our lecturer gives some tips on presenting. I also had learnt about differences between British English and American English. I just realize that I was used both of this language when speaking.
We also learn about formal and informal language. Usually, we used informal language when we are speaking and formal language when we want to write an essay o letter. Before we end our class, Miss Suzilla want us formed a group of six.
For the next class, we have learned about part of speech. There are 10 of them which are noun, pronoun, verb, preposition, article, adverb, adjective, conjuction, interjection and determiner. After that, we get into our group and finding word from newspaper and categorize it according its group. Before end the class, Miss Suzilla gave us some idioms to memorize.
For previous week, we have learned about classes of nouns. There are generally four classes of nouns such as, common noun, proper noun, collective nouns and abstract noun.
