These mostly industrialized cities had an enormous need for children to learn English. Attending school year-round was necessary for students to learn the English language and it was helpful for parents, both of whom often worked. This contrasted greatly to the rural one room school houses of this time where most of the schooling took place during the winter when the children were not needed to work the farms (Hermansen, 1971, p.9). As education became more of a priority for society “progressive reformers championed compulsory attendance laws while extending the abbreviated rural-driven short hours and days into a longer school day and year” (Cuban, 2008,p. 241).
Although there are good resources in place to nurture and challenge students in our schools, the methods of assessment for placement are out-dated. The Nagleri and the Iowa Test of Basic Skills are used, along with EOG scores for grade 3 and above and prerequisite course grades for high school. There is little staff development in gifted education, but each of our AIG teachers are fully certified. People’s attitude towards the use of standard and non-standard English varies depending on their upbringing, culture and subjectiveness ass the two forms of English are different in purpose and are context dependent. The use of non-standard English can be to save time due to its ease in its construction and can also enable communicating ones beliefs and culture. However unlike non-standard English, Standard English make it difficult for interlocutors to build closeness due to it mainly being used to convey prestige, power, formality and professionalism. Due to the advancements in technology, many people have shifted from once using Standard English to now using non-standard English majority of the time. Since Standard English is usually time consuming to construct and difficult to use, people find it easier to use non-standard English, where the governing rules and grammar are more flexible making it efficient and easy to use.
Despite the benefits teachers and schools obtain, standardized testing like the FCAT is not effective in evaluating student’s performance because not all students learn at the same level, they fall under pressure, and they are being taught just for the test which prevents from learning skills that are yet to be learned. The first reason is because a lot of people want a job that will pay very good money. By going to college, you will have the hands-on learning education you need to start your chosen career. This is a huge reason why a lot of careers require you to have at least a two or four year degree. Another reason why college matters is because it helps students boost their confidence level out in the real world. There are countless things that people have to do every single day in life so going college will help give you a better idea of what the definition of life really is.
Their perspective on how the underachieved educational system is, alongside my encounters with complex of schooling. In high school, we are given many standards every day that we must meet in order to be considered successful, but the reality is; these standards are fruitless in expectation for colleges and universities. In high school I did not get the English composition skills, to prepare me for my college courses. They are right about their belief that the professors in the universities are very inspired in some ways to give their standards to the students in depth knowledge to set higher standards, however, it is not good to know that some high school students still enter Americas elite schools through remedial process, because it might agitate the worldwide standards set by the school
I enjoyed this course because it helped me to identify several races. I think that this type of course needs to be taught the younger generation in grammar ages. The students are taught how to read and write, calculate mathematical equations and learn about our history. However, not much is taught in the form of teaching them about equality and to destroy prejudicial indifferences. This type of course, should also continue in junior high as well as high school.
Ever since I took classes where I learned about various countries and their cultures, it has always been my dream to be bilingual. In so many places around the world, children begin to learn English at a very young age. This has always been very important because the United States is a very powerful independent country, unlike many of the smaller countries with failing economies. This brings me to one of Gonzales’s main points, that immigrants don’t want to come to the United States, but have to for a better life. Many people think immigrants are willingly “taking over” the United States, but I agree with Gonzalez.
A.1.a. Pre-K Strengths Because of the ever changing demographics in our system this can be very beneficial and has some great advantages with our program. With more non-English speaking children coming into our system this is encouraging our teachers to learn another language. In return it is helping with the language barrier we are facing in our current days. Our system could also look into hiring more teachers with the added benefit of speaking multiple languages and creating more jobs in our area.
State legislatures, State Boards of Educations, administrators, and educators wanted to make sure that students had a quality education so that they could compete in a global economy. Because employers were demanding more from high school graduates, the CCSS development team began their focus on mathematic and reading. These areas are the foundation for all other subjects. Being proficient in these subjects would ensure that high school graduates would be successful in pursuing their goals in obtaining a higher education. With better-educated employees, businesses will produce better quality
