When shaving a surgical site the hair is removed very close to the skin. Multiple studies have shown that using a razor causes micro abrasions to the skin. When you have abrasions to the skin, it provides easy access for bacteria to enter the body. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended that hair not be removed but if it is necessary clipping right before surgery is the method preferred (CDC, 2012). A2a.
