Eating out versus eating at home The modern human being has a busy lifestyle. People focus the most on achieving more and improving their life, but often forget about basic things, like food and health. Having a good balanced nutrition is very important for anybody who wants to stay in good shape physically and mentally. We often find ourselves wondering whether to have dinner at a restaurant or take the time to cook something at home. I used to dine at restaurants a lot, about 5 or 6 times a week. At some point I realized that I don’t enjoy the food that much anymore and I started cooking at home. When my girlfriend, who is an excellent cook, moved in with me, I totally gave up going out to restaurants, as I finally learned to value and appreciate a homemade meal. I came to realize that anybody who can find enough time to cook a meal every 2 or 3 days a week will enjoy more eating at home rather than eating out, because it’s cheaper, healthier and can be very educational for younger members of the family. Cooking your meal and eating at home is cheaper than going out to restaurants or even fast-food places. What two people spend on a dinner at a decent restaurant is almost enough to buy groceries for a whole week. The cost of a hamburger can’t be more than 2 dollars: one lettuce leaf, some ground beef and two slices of bread. For $20 worth of groceries a family of three could make a pot of soup that may be enough for them 5 to 6 days. To make two portions of rib eye steak with creamy mash potatoes will cost you somewhere around 10 to 12 dollars, depending on the quality of the meat. At last, I can make a main-course salad to feed ten people for about 10 dollars of produce from the farmer’s market. For a family that cooks constantly, groceries can be very cheap, as they can be bought in a bulk, not to mention the items on sale and the coupons that every grocery
