Kristina Main 10/14/09 Film review Easy Street Starring: Charlie Chaplin Easy Street Starring: Charlie Chaplin The character the tramp that Charlie Chaplin plays in the short film starts out as a homeless or down on his luck person that wonders into a mission house. After meeting a woman and a pastor or priest in a mission house church service, The Tramp says he will reform then goes to become a cop. When he becomes a cop as in any Chaplin film funny and many chase scenes begin to happen. All of these scenes show that The Tramp is trying to help out the “little guy” and get rid of the bully that is terrorizing the street. This short film is the classic story of good over coming evil and the little guy wins in the end. In seeing the film in its entirety I enjoyed the film very much and I would definitely recommend this short film to others. The short film to me was very funny and the slapstick and silent over the top acting made me laugh all the way through the short film. The major emotion that I had while watching this short film was that it made me happy and warm and fuzzy inside because of the slapstick humor to the damsel in distress moments. This film like many of the other of Charlie Chaplin films shows both humor and sentimental scenes. The humor in this short film is very much slap stick with examples like hitting the bully with his night stick to get his attention to running away and fooling the bad men. Also like in many of Chaplin’s other film there is large amounts of sentimental scenes. Most of these types of scenes are centered on the women that the tramp meets in the film. In Easy street the main woman is a mission worker and gains the eye of the tramp in the mission house while she is playing the piano. This is shown by the close ups of both the tramp and the woman.
