Dear Joseph, How are you my friend I hope all is well i hear that you would like to enter in to the care profession I would like to explain the ins and outs of the duty of care It means having the duty or the responsibility of being the caretaker for another person and carers. Someone who is too young, too old, too ill, or unfit mentally to care for himself or herself requires another person to assist also to build friendships and trusts between carer and the individual or persons in your care. This could include looking after the person's hygiene (cleanliness), safety, meals, transportation, and other medical or physical needs. This also involves promoting the individuals want for independence but making them aware of possible impact (good/bad), dangers or harm their decisions could have. You will also be accountable for the quality of work and maintaining an up to date knowledge and skills for the profession in wish to work in. The duty of care comes in with my job as a care support worker in the form of caring for people, with multiple mental difficulties as some have learning difficulties and poor personal living skills (day to day life). Where I work we have different levels of care we have people on rehab programmes helping them to gain different life skills such as cooking, cleaning and personal care (baths/showers, cleaning teeth etc) we have one individual who lives in the bungalow attached to the home and we support him with his day to day life making sure he has taken his medication that he needs it is my job as carer to call him for his medication and see that he comes to the medication room and if he requires a doset box with his medication in for a weekend with his family it is also my duty of care to him to explain when the tablets must be taken and the importance of them and to fill out the paperwork explaining what
