Drug addiction is a major part of today’s society. Not only does it affect the human body in many different ways it also affects the mouth in various ways. There are many different harmful drugs around the world. Some examples include methamphetamine, cocaine, cannabis, heroin, and ecstasy.   Throughout my paper I will go into detail about each harmful drug and the effect on the human body.

Methamphetamine is a highly addictive illegal and on the rise drug in today’s society. Methamphetamine has many different street names some of them include meth, crank, crystal meth, and ice. Methamphetamine can be used in many different ways, such as injected, snorted, and smoked. Methamphetamine affects the brain, central nervous system, and the mouth. Some short term effects of methamphetamine include increase of body movement, mood level, wakefulness, physical activity increases, and appetite decreases. Methamphetamine also causes increase of heart rate, paranoia, anxiety, aggressiveness, and convulsions.   Those are some examples of short term effects. Here are some long term effects. The use of meth has many long term effects such as violent behavior, psychotic behavior, auditory hallucination, mood disturbances, and delusions, homicidal or suicidal thoughts. It also can produce severe anorexia. Some effects of methamphetamine in the human mouth cause rampant tooth decay. The use of meth causes the teeth to appear blackened, stained, rotten, crumbling and falling apart. Often teeth cannot be helped and must be removed do to tooth decay from use of meth of dry mouth and long period of poor oral hygiene.

Cocaine is another highly addictive drug that causes harm to the human body. Cocaine is also known as blow, crack, rock, and nose candy. There are common types of cocaine powder and crack cocaine.
