Driving Fear Away

It takes a lot of courage to be able to get in a car and hold and maneuver the steering wheel. “Driving over bridges, or having a fear of highways,” and getting into car accidents are common anxiety that teens like I, have (“Are you Suffering with a Fear of Driving?”). But just like a toddler who gets up and tries again when he falls down after taking his first few steps, we must overcome our trepidation and try once more with the encouragement of the people around us and of course our confidence and determination to do it. Driving is an essential part of everyone’s life. We drive to be able to get from one place to another, or to relieve stress, or just to have joy rides with friends. But in driving, one must make sure to follow the laws, and to pay attention, and always stay alert. “Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for teens” (“Featured Article: Teen Driving”). Overspeeding, getting distracted, and not being able to respond to hazards in time cause many teens to crash. However, these accidents can always be prevented with the help of “parents by example, helping the kids get the practice they need, and talking to them as early and often about the risks and responsibilities of driving” (“Featured Article: Teen Driving”). Practice and experience will always help improve and help you overcome the fear. Fear is a natural part of life that takes awhile to overcome, but always remember "acting in the face of fear will never be easy, but afterwards you'll always be glad you did it" (Covey 119).
