Arranged Marriage In the article “Arranging a Marriage in India” the author Serena Nanda narrates the experience she had in her first trip to India. Looking through the eyes of an accomplished American young woman, she views Indian culture discomforting. The knowledge that has been brought to her attention, “arranged marriage” of young men and female was unfair to any rational human being. Nanda begins by telling Sita’s point of view regarding - the union of two people as a couple who pledge to spend their remaining lives together – marriage. According to Sita, letting her parents choose her partner in life is better than an “inexperienced” person such as herself to choose a man.
The wedding gift is a sum of money promised to the bride. Most women need this money to live on, but most who file for divorce never see it. This documentary is trying to show the strength women have to fight for their rights as they confront biased laws to get a divorce, how the legal system affects their lives. It also shows how Iranian women are victims to a terrible law system. To convey this message the director, Kim Longinotto, brings her cameras into the Tehran courtroom and lets it tell its own story.

The act of torture is so inhumane and such a pressing issue that the leaders of the world outlawed it as quickly as possible to save lives. Torture is so powerful and so evil that it may deprive someone of his will to exist. Depriving a person of his will to live is the same, if not worse than killing that person.
