The first fleet under Arthur Phillip arrived in Australia on the 26th of January 1788 and was the first European settlement and penal colony at Sydney Cove, New South Wales. It is on this day, every year, Australia Day is celebrated. Governor Phillip was instructed to establish the first British colony and was made Captain-General and Governor-in-Chief of New South Wales. In 1791, another British colony arrived in Western Australia when George Vancouver claimed the Albany region in the name of King George III. In 1827, Western Australia was established.
In 1770, Captain James Cook and his crew found unclaimed land located in the Southern Hemisphere and called it ‘terra nullius’. 18 years later, Captain Arthur Phillip arrived on the east coast of this land, at Botany Bay on the 26th of January. However, the land had been inhabited by Indigenous Australians for more than 40, 000 years. They were the first to have found the land which is Australia today. Despite their presence, the British still claimed the land as their own even though they knew that there were natives already living there.
They were very successful in the new world because of three things: They were first, Technology, and disease. Because Spain was the first there, they were able to start to conquer before other European powers even new it existed. They could easily defeat the natives in combat because of their superior weapons and armor. While Spain had steel armor and guns the natives had little to no armor and wooden clubs and spears. Lastly, the Natives were exposed to many European diseases they had never encounters before.

By the time it was 1763 most of the white colonies would say that they are loyal British subjects. However after 1763, mostly between the time periods 1775-76, these years saw the send of the relationship with Britain. The British should take some of this blame as they did introduce some rigorous polices after 1763. This was an unwanted change for the American Colonies, As Britain left them alone for so long but now are starting to change things. But there are other courses of the break out of the armed conflict not just polices of the British Government that are the colonies as not all of the polices where unreasonable.
Salutary neglect in its self was an undocumented, though long-lasting, British policy of avoiding strict enforcement of parliamentary laws, meant to keep the American colonies obedient to England. Or in much simpler terms, if England left the colonies alone, the colonies would have absolutely no problem with parliament. Since the imperial authority did not assert the power that it had, the colonists were left to govern themselves, therefore becoming accustomed to the idea of self-control. The effects of such prolonged isolation eventually resulted in the emergence of a collective identity that considered itself separate from Great Britain causing the American Revolution. The end of salutary neglect meant the American colonies were not happy with England.
Ho Chi Minh and General Giap understood that they could not defeat the US through the use of conventional military tactics but could defeat them through an unconventional Peoples war. The Vietcong tactics were largely successful and effective, as they had extensive knowledge of the geography, topography and climate of Vietnam. Their tactics had also been hardened during the French war, making them more comfortable and experienced in their fighting. Furthermore, they avoided direct and open confrontation with the US forces in which they would be invariably outgunned. They operated mainly at night, which allowed them to have an advantage over the US soldiers who were unable to swiftly move about the unfamiliar terrain of Vietnam.
