English 68 24 March 2014 Contrast Paragraph Dogs Vs. Cats There are several similarities that cats and dogs share, but at the same time they are both still radically different in so many ways. Some aspects to consider when owning one of these animals include time management, size and behavior. These two animals are the most common domesticated pets in peoples homes today. A look into their similarities and difference can give a person good insight in which pet would be best for them. To begin with, cats come from the feline family.
Catfights mainly happen when two cats are fighting for territory. Mercury poisoning happens when mercury leaks into the water and either the Panther directly drinks it, or an animal that they eat drinks the poisoned water. Kitten survival rate is not good either because many are affected by heart conditions from inbreeding. Not many things are being done to stop the Panthers from becoming extinct, but something’s are. Texas Pumas were released to breed with the Panthers.
While it is true that it does affect this animal’s behavior, in reality, most pet owners actually only give their cats the pouches to play with and smell. In England, there is an old tale which states that if the root is chewed catnip would "make the most gentle person fierce and quarrelsome". (p. 99, Hedgemaids and Fairy Candles. The Lives and Lore of North American Wildflowers) Catnip contains a "terpene-like chemical , nepata lactone, which tends to repel insects" (p.577, The Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Wildflowers, Eastern Region) and can be used to protect other plants. It is possible that this is the chemical that affects the behaviour of cats.
Nowadays many people own pets in their homes such as dogs, cats, mice, fish and even sometimes weird pets like snakes and scorpions which they considered them as a member of the family. But dogs and cats remains the most owned among for many reasons such as security, fashion, companionship…And for some people who are about to think of owning a pet, they find a hard time deciding of which one they should go to and if I had the choice of which to choose, I would rather prefer a cat than a dog. One of the reason I would choose cat is because they are cleaner and neater than dogs. Cats wash themselves by their tongues most of the time, so they don’t smell and they always look clean. While the dog, if it wasn’t given a shower at least once a week, it would smell as well as the house.
The legs of the cat are very muscular and the back legs are much longer than the front, allowing the cats to increase their leaping abilities (Knight, 2005). Their fur is a solid, light brown color, but when they are young cubs, the fur will have spots, similar to a snow leopard (“Basic facts”, 2014). This animal, along with its cubs, has a varied geography across the western hemisphere. The species spreads from Canada all the way down to Argentina (“Basic facts”, 2014). In the United States, there are over 30,000 mountain lions (“Basic facts”, 2014), which makes this cat the largest member of the cat family present in the country (“Mountain Lion”, 2014).
From doing this there was a statue of him put up in the train station. Show me a cat that loyal. There are many other examples of dogs showing these amazing characteristics but the list is too long. This is one of the many reasons why I think dogs are better than cats. Dogs can be of magnificent service.
Cats and Their Natural Instincts Cats claws are an integral body part. They are like fingers and toes on humans. Claws are one of the basic tools for executing the daily activities of a cat’s life and also act as the first line of defense against enemies. (1) However cats can be destructive of furniture and wood work in a home. To understand why cats tend to claw furniture and wood work may help you understand them better.
Jaguarundi The Jaguarundi is a weasel-like short wildcat closely related to the Puma and Jaguar. This cat is relatively unknown to people in the United States, but is well known to locals in Mexico and as far south as Argentina. The name Jaguarundi means “Little Jaguar” in the Tupi Language, an indigenous people of Brazil. In other places the Jaguarundi is called the “Wessel Cat” due to its pointed head, small rounded ears, slender body and long neck. In Mexico the Jaguarundi is called an “Otter Cat” because they are good swimmers (apparently cats do like to swim, especially those who inhabit hot locals).
The tail on every snow leopard is more than a yard long, and they do not roar like another other big cat. The usually age for a snow leopard is no older than 15 years old and they can leap horizontally about 45 feet in distance. Habitat Destruction Snow leopards live in the high rugged mountains of Central Asia while their habitat covers 2 million Km2 which is the approximate size of Greenland or Mexico. Their habitat extends through 12 different countries, Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. China happens to contain a total of 60% of the habitats compared to those areas.
Before you try to compare a cat to a dog, you need to understand that both species of animals differ greatly. A cat is generally smaller than a dog. A dog can bark, and a cat can meow. Cats can climb trees, and dogs cannot…etc, etc. Because of all these differences, no one can really say, “a dog is better than a cat, because…” and vice versa as a proven truth (You may voice it aloud if you are stating it as an opinion).
