People were in panic running around trying to escape the Black Death. Some towns even rioted, “The combination of plague and fear of a Scottish invasion caused such unrest within Durham itself that there were riots on the streets.”16 People would leave their towns to run even futher away from the plague, stated in The Black Death essay “caring about nothing but themselves, abandoned their own city, their own houses, their dwellings, their relatives, their property, and went abroad…”17 The Black Death did not just affect men, but women as well caught the plague. When rich were sick they either ended up dying or leaving, when this happened many of their servants were left without a job, “…very often these servants lost their lives and their earnings.”18 Thus the economy started to do poorly. The economy was one of aspects that was affect the most by the Black Death, as stated in The Black Death Overview “The economy was probably hit the hardest of all the aspects of Europe.”19 Artisans were slowly disappearing which caused, people with skills to be more valuable the rich people.20 Farmers stop tending farms, farm animals were led astray, and people started to rob and pillage other towns. After the Black Death ended the economy slowly started to turn for the
Many people throughout the Reign of Terror were killed by a guillotine. This affects not only them but their family and friends too. Life is the biggest thing anyone has to lose whether it’s yourself or a loved one. 20,000-40,000 people died from the guillotine alone. (Document F) This loss adds to the evidence that people of France did not want the Reign of Terror, therefore it is not justified.
Sometimes nationalism is not good because it gives tension among nations, when some nationalist desire something, like in 1990’s due to nationalism many states broke up in eastern Europe including Yugoslavia and soviet union.Feelings of nationalism at times have led to causes like genocide, for eg. at the time of holocaust millions of people were killed leaving many people separating from their families.Even back in the World Wars many lives were lost due to nationalism where no one gained anything except for deaths because it makes people think that their country is superior to others and influences them towards conflict with other countries. In Rwanda genocide, Hutu killed thousands of Tutsi just due to race and benefiting their nation. We should embrace nationalism to some extent where its for expansion, economic growth, national security and if its good for a
The Impact of Black Death & the World It Made Aaron Semkiw HIS: 103 World Civilizations I Instructor Kenneth Adderley April 9, 2011 The Impact of Black Death & the World It Made The Black Death was the world’s equivalent of an apocalyptic war, and it changed the lives of many people. It destroyed one-third of Europe’s populace, claiming somewhere around twenty million lives. And still, much of what we grasp about it is incorrect. The elements of the Plague defined in the imaginations of frightened school kids, the grotesque black bruises, the out of control state of high temperatures, and the unpleasant cessation by respiratory collapse, are just about conclusively true. But what this disease really was and how it made
Able to achieve their desired purpose by eventually breaking through to the south and east, Americans were able to threaten to encircle German forces in Normandy from behind. However, this came at a great price of innocent civilians’ and soldiers’ lives. This ultimately resulted in the destruction of Caen due to bombing and fighting, and great casualties were a major result of this intense combat. Much of the destruction and death on Caen could have been prevented if the Allies had ultimately been more careful with following through orders, and had they taken more precaution in bombing the entire city, many civilians wouldn’t have had to pay the price. In conclusion, the Battle of Caen should be remembered for the great efforts of the Allied forces in preventing German expansion, however many should be informed on the opposing side in which the Allied forces created a great deal of the tragedy due to negligence, rage, and severe
They were also impossible due to the contaminated land. [IMAGE] By 1978 the localised conflicts had turned to wars with Cambodia, and with China in 1979. The continued problems were too much for a large portion of the civilians. Thousands fled the country, most in boats, but also in aircraft, in search for a new life, boarding any vessel until it was dangerously full. These 'boat people' as they were later known, spread to Britain, and even the USA.
Approximately25 million people died. Many cities were wiped out including the medieval cities Lamen and Thurgau. The Black Plague killed many but it affected England the most. They lost one third of there population. The church lost man power and impoverishment through not being able to cultivate their vast tracts of land.
This protest could be seen as the beginning of the end for Tsar Nicholas II as he called his army to open fire on all the protesters, killing several hundred protestors. Because of the high death count this event is known as ‘Bloody Sunday’. This caused more people to lose respect for the monarchy and began to lose loyalty from his army, an example of this would be in June 1905, the crew of the battleship Potemkin rebelled in the Russon-Japanese War. Because of this Nicholas was faced with two choices, a continuence of the current condictions or consitiutional reform. The reforms that Nicholas signed in October 1905 promised the people of Russia, civil liberties, freedon of speech, freedom of assembly and that no laws are to be introduced without the agreement of the Duma.
