Violent, preventable crimes by minors have long plagued America’s larger cities but have scarcely been punished because of the age of the perpetrators. Protected by a lenient and highly outdated juvenile justice system, violent youth have taken advantage of such benefits and have run rampant in our cities. High profile slayings are quite the norm on the evening news, and every once in a while, disaster strikes and we lose a large number of lives at the hands of young offenders. And sadly, naive America continues to lose more and more lives at the hands of reckless teens and repeat offenders because we choose to give them as many chances as they need so long as they are not legal adults. A lot of young children die in drunk driving accidents every year, so finding a solution to this problem can save many lives. The reason all this is a problem is because teenagers tend to think there invincible and can drive under the influence but really they have no idea what there getting themselves into. Most kids miss judge the amount of alcohol they've consumed and when they get behind the wheel think there okay but in reality there way over the legal of drinking. Many people have said no to this question with all the crime in the streets as of now. With the 2,800 juveniles that were arrested for homicide in 1994 (Teen Curfews), many people wouldn’t want their kids to be in that statistic. Because of this high number of arrested teens, they began to have curfews that made kids stay inside their homes after a set time. These curfews were made to enforce the law and try to lower the teen crime rate.
The shock of seeing the people who should have a good future being sucked in to the vicious cycle of reservation life is close to unbearable, but it is the norm in this area. And, the fact that nobody strives to defeat the embarrassingly to correct stereotypes of Native Americans makes me pity; very few people try to obtain academic achievement instead of working at the casino, drowning in drunk, and raising a clan of children that will mimic the calamitous ways of their parents. I know some teenagers Native Americans close to my age have all gotten drunk and high, and most have been sent to jail or treatment centers. They do not know a few words of the Ojibwe language beyond simple commands, and numbers that have been repeated throughout the reservation since they were young. For Native Americans age 15-24, the alcohol related death rate is seventeen time higher than the national average.
The Fresh Outlook seems to be a newer type of talk show, that isn’t as well-known as ABC News. However, The Fresh Outlook has guest speakers that are well known, this helps bring bigger audiences. I believe that the authors made a great point in their videos. I also think that these videos were made in ways that will extremely help people that are also being affected by these “personal demons”. The videos are made in a way that help make people better aware of the affects these harmful substances can have on anyone’s life.
Due to binge drinking, there are an estimated 300 suicides per year in the U.S. However, at age 18, kids could apply for a job, a credit card, join the army and even marry but can’t drink alcohol because the law is 21. But, at age 18, the brain isn’t fully developed and they could make bad decisions but at age 21, all parts of the brain are fully developed and they can make smarter decisions. At 18, the teens could be reckless with the alcohol and abuse it and hurt themselves or hurt others. Alcohol is very dangerous.
Juvenile Participation in Gangs Often times, when driving through bad parts of towns or major cities, without even noticing, gangs can be found. Many times gangs are not always wearing matching shirts or outfits, or all the same race, but can really just be a group of kids who have nothing better to do. What drives juveniles into joining gangs and what can be done to prevent more gangs from forming? Many times kids join gangs because they have been neglected by their parents or other family members, and because their so called “friends” are doing it and many other reasons. There are so many reasons as to which juveniles can talk themselves into joining gangs.

After school, most kids just want to go out and have fun, and sometimes what they consider fun is bad. "Later school times will mean kids will leave school later, thus keeping many youngsters off the streets before their parents get home. Teens are on the news for gang related street brawls and taking guns to school because they are being harassed but when they do positive things, it doesn’t get as much recognition. A troubled teen only wants the attention they are not receiving at home. So if being negative and doing negative thing gets attention, that’s what they are going to do. The question, “how can we help prevent the crime rate within our neighborhood?” is often asked. I believe we should try to become more involved and active within our community.
