Most people find that looking things up on the internet is distracting because you are already on the web so why not check YouTube for a funny video, or update your status on the social network. Is the advancing of our technology worth the making us dumber as Nicholas Carr states in his piece, "Is Google Making us Stupid?" We are live in a technologically civilized society.
He says technology is eliminating the need for them because you can make chips much simpler with a computer than a human worker. So yes, it seems that the more technology we are creating the less highly educated workers we will need. Section 2 is where he goes on to talk about the working classes and how since 1990 the U.S job market is “hollowing” out. The high and low paying jobs are increasing while the middle wage jobs are all disappearing. The reason for the job market turning this way is the fact that technology hurts those who do physical work and helps those who work with their mind.

Computers make life far easier and many people living today probably could not function if they were sent back in time before computers were created. Although people are just taking advantage of the presence of this technology, people need to realize how to use it responsibly and not to overuse it. Computers let people communicate with each other in the blink of an eye. This revolutionary way of communication can help build relationships and bonds between people.
There was only a simple law, and that was to not read books as well as think, making “the mind drink less and less.” This doesn’t seem much of a sacrifice because society was filled with far more excitement than literature could offer. Meanwhile, new technology helped people do everyday chores and made life simpler, leaving more time for fun. Are We the Dumbest Generation? Adults often argue that the intellectual ability of today’s generations has taken a turn for the worst due to the amount of technology they are exposed to as they develop mature ideals. English professor Mark Bauerlein examines in his 2008 book the effects of digital media and how it has caused young people to be more connected and technologically savvy as a result of the wide range of modern inventions, but he also asserts that this has caused them to become less intelligent; therefore, he presents the modern ages as the Dumbest Generation. Young people have a tremendous amount of information available to them due to technology through social networks, the internet, and video games. Many respectable individuals discuss on whether to call the modern generation the “dumbest generation” (Bauerlein) or realizing that they might be participating in an intellectual revolution.
What you buy in our society determines your value and happiness is mistaken for satisfaction. At the end of the day, the United States does not come home fulfilled from the purchases they made or the things they have gained; it comes from the relationships you build and this is which creates genuine happiness. Advertisement, commonly viewed as a way to promote a product, is more than what it seems. In the present day, critics view advertisements as a propaganda that guides the audience the wrong direction. Mr. Schrank suggest that some people who watch advertisements are vulnerable to the “ad’s attacks.”(Doc. E) However, I disagree, advertisements are informative to our daily lives; without them our world would probably fall apart. They do just more than promote a product; an advertisement helps wage for jobs, educate people, and also explains how to make our lives better.
There are people who say that this generation is the dumbest because of lack of ability to focus for long periods of time. Also people might say that technology is making this generation lazy. Others might believe that this generation isn’t the dumbest. They might think that technology is helping us adapt to the world around them due to the fact that the world is run by technology. Even though this generation might be losing some ability to focus for long periods of time, technology is helping us adapt to the ever-changing world.
