In my opinion, I got the idea that this book was written more for the workings of the mind but at the same time Steinbeck wanted to make you feel something as you read this. I think it was written for the workings of the mind because he wanted to get his point across about the constant internal battle of good vs. bad. What I enjoyed most about this book was the way he used characters to portray actions or ideas. For example, he used Cathy to represent evil and Aron to represent the internal battle of good vs.
This is because of the nature of the role of counsellors. We need to be confidential, emotionally detached, empathetic and self aware. The ability to reflect or be self aware helps one to grow. This is because it will identify areas that are lacking and necessary for development. When this is done, it helps to create time to read,
In the attempt to capture truth in writing, writers and readers alike are cognisant of the artifice that occurs in the process of writing. This oxymoron; that truth and authenticity can result from artifice is the basis of the conflict that occurs between concepts of reality, truth and literary realism. The nature of fiction itself presents tension between truth and artifice: writers abide by the facets of literary realism, which has a “fidelity to the truth” (M.H. Abrams), and must create artifices to deliver meaning and create truth, utilising techniques of fiction such as metaphor, figures, imagery and dialogue which aren’t necessarily true. In order to create a sense of authenticity, Nam Le abides by verisimilitude in his short stories “Love and Honour and Pity and Pride and Compassion and Sacrifice” and “Tehran Calling” in his collection The Boat.
It means that the writer should work his or her information from general to specific; and it is true for this essay, because as we can see the general idea, being how people enjoy “mystery stories”, is brought up right in the beginning and then the writer makes his way to the specific, being why he believes Agatha Christie appeals the most by listing his reasons, “strong characters, her interesting settings, and her strong morality.” The body of the essay is well-written. He explores his points in the same order that came in the thesis statement. First, he explains Agatha Christie’s characters in the body paragraph 1; in the second body paragraph, he gives examples of her interesting settings and in the last body paragraph, he gives his opinion on Agatha Christie’s morality. Also, the writer has put enough detail and examples to support each of his points. Lastly the conclusion is well-done.
Throughout this story there is obvious evidence that there is indirect characterization. Indirect characterization is the process when the personality of a character is revealed through the character's speech, actions, and appearance. A closer examination of Sherlock Holmes thoughts, his words, his actions, and Dr. Watson's thoughts will prove that there is obvious indirect characterization about Sherlock Holmes throughout the short story. Sherlock thoughts: Throughout the short story there is no given thoughts from Sherlock Holmes, but he does voice his mind freely. A graphic novel was a good choice in re-telling this story because it captured emotions you might not see by simply reading the story without imagery also telling the story. The three examples used will be: The fathers’ departure,
The novel A New Kind of Dreaming by Anthony Eaton has a moral message of fighting for what you believe in and seeking the truth. Eaton has successfully portrayed this message with the use of characterisation, events throughout the plot & point of view. Eaton has used the characters in his book to deliver the message quite well. He has used Jamie, who is the newcomer, as the marginalised character seeking the truth. Whilst Sgt.
Comparative essay The theme of good versus evil in the novels Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card and Veronica Roth’s Divergent is explored by good characters overcoming obstacles in the pursuit of success. In both novels, their main characters suffer through difficult obstacles to achieve success. They even provide a setting which creates more obstacles for the protagonist. Both authors use different methods of conveying the story to the readers. When a person is faced with a problem, he would be faced with making a decision, how he would deal with that problem.
Without a plot, you don't have a story but merely a random series of events. Characters are important to me because I find you can often relate to them, making me feel more engaged in reading the book. The setting of a story helps the reader visualize what is going on and better connects the person with the story. As you read on, I will go into more detail as to why the above reasons are important in a short story. The plot is a nontrivial task that gets me caught up, wanting to keep turning the pages and reading on.
An effective leader must possess the ability to communicate effectively with fellow colleagues, but most important those led by the individual. The leader must not only possess effective oral and written communication skills but also interpersonal communication skills. Interpersonal communication is how an individual communications with another individual or many people and includes a message sending and message receiving. This aspect is crucial to the criminal justice system because of the potential for danger that may exist as well as sensitive information passed from person to person. If a leader is lacking in interpersonal communication skills, the message is likely to be misunderstood, causing confusion among those who are following.
