PAD 515 Week 3 Discussion Carver is missing some very basic values and attitudes. He is missing being considerate, respectful, fair, cooperativeness. The changes that Carver needs to make are numerous. The changes will be difficult for him to sustain, as they are not his “style”, but change can be achieved, as with anything, if he works on his values and attitudes. It will more than likely take his subordinates and co-workers even longer to trust that he has changed and that he will adhere to his new found values and attitudes.
Faith can be a very complicated thing. It is almost necessary to have in order to get through every day life, especially in the situation the novel is set in. Faith unites everyone in the community in a way, but it also causes conflicts between the characters because they exercise their faith in different ways. It’s strange how something that is supposed to give these people hope for the future, also causes them to struggle against each other in their progression towards better days. Most of the people in the community hold their religious faith as their main priority.
And just like in life we didn’t get to choose our consequence for our action. But whether you make a good or bad choice there is always a consequence. Being obedient is important for our safety and the Lord sees obstacles ahead that we may not be capable of seeing, so we just have to trust in him and follows his commandments. The savior is the ultimate example of obedience. The savior was always obedient.
If too much time is spent with the counselor talking, and giving advise, the client will not feel heard, and often will not be heard so the advise could be very wrong. If the counselor does not share, the client will not be getting much benefit out of the relationship, and feel like they are not getting any help with their issues. Jesus was called the great counselor, not because He walked around telling people what to do, but because He looked at the individual problems, and walked with them to the solution (Tchividjian, 2013 pg. 57). Just as the people were comfortable coming to Jesus, so should people feel comfortable coming to
UNIT 4 ASSIGNMENT Rianne S While reading the article by Richard W. Halstead it was clear that he learned something for Steve that he didn’t expect to happen. The counselor has learned that instead of focusing on the negative it’s better to focus on the positive. During the journey the counselor felt lost as he was trying so hard to figure out how to help Steven. He has learned that he can’t choose someone’s destination or try to make someone’s journey easier, they will do that on their own. He learned that even though the longer path is harder it is the path God wanted.
A person may perceive a certain image of what God is, like a trinket or something they have seen that reminds them of God. Then they start to pray to that every time instead of praying to God. This is a point he is trying to make by saying that it is still a major sin but that sometimes we don’t notice the smaller things as being bad. This book teaches a lot about the nature of God. Screwtape has a hard time believing that God actually cares for His people, unlike, “Their Father Below”.
Members of the church began to form their own churches to make it possible for them to attend regularly. This disappointed Bradford because he believed that God wanted them to come over to this new land in order to create a single church. After they began to spread out Bradford thinks that God might no longer look after them since they are not doing right by him. This also disappointed him because they were willing to sacrifice so much and put their lives at risk for their church, but once they had success they easily abandoned all that they stood for at the beginning and during the hard times of this adventure. With the people of
He was constantly trying to prove to himself, God, and the rest of the world that he was not a coward. He did this by not leaving dangerous situations. He feels that trying to prove himself to not be a coward made him become such an overbearing and abusive father, husband, and pastor. In return the children and mother felt embarrassment for having to listen to his jacked up sermons knowing that Congolese people don’t know right from wrong. The mother understood that the Congolese people did have spirituality and they did have a God.
Challenges: How they can make you a better person Every day we are faced with challenges we must overcome, some challenges we face are harder than others and we may require help to break through the barriers we face. If we do not succeed with the challenges that are thrown at us, then we do not grow as an individual. With Dr. Malcolm Sayer in the movie Awakenings, he has trouble with people. At first Dr. Sayer cannot face any challenge that requires him to interact with people unless it involves the things he is passionate about, such as work. Dr. Sayer seems to be a lonely man with severe social anxiety, he would much rather be at home reading or studying his plants than interacting with people.
It stated that if enough people would follow their conscience and disobey unjust laws, they could bring about a peaceful revolution”(www.holidays.net). Rev. Dr. King took to this theme and allowed it to be one of his principle premises. Being a pastor was more than likely an extremely arduous task, especially during such a prolific time period. Anytime a group of people are faced with continuous struggles, it tends to lead to a questioning of their faith.
