DEALING WITH DISAPPOINTMENTS AND DISCOURAGEMENT In order to discuss different types of discouragement, we need first to understand what means to be discouraged. “Universal Dictionary” (Published by The Reader’s Digest Association Limited) says: “to discourage: to deprive of confidence, hope, or spirit; dishearten; daunt.” Discouragement is the feeling of despair in the face of obstacles, the feeling that everything is wrong and nothing will turn out well. Everybody's life has many failures, rejections and discouragement. The difference between us is the way each of us deals with them. It is not sinful to feel discouragement in life. The most important is to go through without sinful actions. So, because discouragement is universal, pastors also get it. In pastor’s life, it is a part of the price he pay for the ministry he needs to do. Which are the causes of discouragement in pastor’s life? Self-sacrifice, loneliness, fatigue, criticism, rejection, pressure, frustration, failure, fear. Self sacrifice is the daily cross we need to take every day, as part of the cost who needs to be paid by a leader. Without cross, the leadership is not possible. And some times may bring discouragement. Loneliness is part of leader’s life, because he must be ahead of his followers and they are areas where he must go just alone. Fatigue comes from physical and emotional directions and may bring discouragement. Fatigue may comes when a leader is involved in big projects, who take time and leaders may become tired. Criticism is part of every day life of a pastor. It may kill the efficiency, capability and initiative of leader. It may affect his confidence in his abilities as leader. Rejection may come when a leader follows high spiritual standards. He may be rejected by people but he is accepted by God. Pressure may come when are decisions to be taken and it is difficult to
