From my personal experience, I have come to understand the occupation of nursing as both, science and art. It demands dedication, intelligence, education, and the commitment to life- long learning from all individuals who aspire to be great nurses. Nursing focuses on the patient and more importantly, their needs. These needs encompass more than the physical body; thus, we must look to the psychological, social, and spiritual needs of our patients. In doing so, nurses must be care-givers and educators - providing the necessary information, skills and knowledge, to their patients to allow for self-nurturance, well-being, and growth.
Once completing my bachelors of science in nursing, I can continue my long-term goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. The skills required of a nurse practitioner are skills that I have been practicing throughout my career as a nurse. I will listen to my patient’s needs and concerns, and provide them with information in a way they can understand it. I will have better critical thinking and reasoning skills for when problems or situations arise. I will have the knowledge and information needed to diagnose and treat.
My nursing philosophy is much the same as my life philosophy. I follow the Golden Rule of treat others as you would want to be treated. Each patient and his or her family should be treated with dignity and respect. Also, as a nurse it is important to build trust with patients and their families. My nursing philosophy is continuously changing as I go through my career.

Caring for patients defines who nurses are and represents the art within an ideal professional nurse. The goal is for nursing to exist as a satisfying profession and not just another job. Watson’s theory is unique because it reflects essential elements for the patient and the nurse. She believes her theory benefits the patient because the nurse learns how to ease the patient’s anxiety and fear when suffering from an illness and enhance the patient’s self-esteem as he or she promote effective healing. I talk to my patients and their families about balanced diets, physical activities, fresh air, and having close personal relationships are in regards to health and balance.
