Community Service Communities are as strong as the people who make them up. Without members of a community pitching in to make it a better place, it will come crashing down to the ground. For some reason most kids of today are not interested in volunteer work. They’d rather play video games or update their Facebook status all day instead of picking up trash at a park or spending time with elders at the local nursing home. Have they all just become dangerously lazy?
For this psychology project, I decided that I would deprive myself of something that is in my life 24/7, my phone. Choosing this, I think, was one of the most interesting things I could of done because it is so personal to me and is in my life at all times and completely taking something away that's with you all the time can really have an effect on someone. It gave me a taste of childhood, when phones weren't really too popular and kept so close to you as you would your credit card or car keys. I spent basically all my time on my phone and it gave me a big reality check that, there are so many other productive things you can do with life other than sit there and be on your phone. Before I decided to go through with this experience, I collected the amount of hours I was on my phone, and sadly, it was basically for at least 20 minutes each hour, between the time I woke up, untill the time I fell asleep.
Computers are now being introduced in kindergarten classes. When older students went to school, computers did not exist. Because of this, older students lack the knowledge of online usage, and struggle during online classes. Life experiences are an area where the older students have an advantage. Adult students have the
The audience of this article is referring to everyone who uses mobile devices to stay in contact in this day and age. The art of writing a letter to someone has been slowly diminishing through the last past few years, as we have used technology in our everyday life to keep in contact, state our opinions, and even express our feelings via internet network. The likes of our upcoming generations, are less likely to ever write a letter because of the new ways of communication and the vast growth it has taken around the world. “ R We D8ting?” by Katherine Barrett 1. The authors purpose of this article is that you shouldn’t judge a person by their looks nor there first impression.
When the author says, “I am not an internet addict by any definition, but I do wonder why I crave something that makes me less happy.” I also agree with this statement because I know going on the internet make me restless and I cannot concentrate after getting of the computer but every day I go to the computer to check my emails and etc. His argument of taking a break from new technology for a few days would help us feel better and appreciate the technology that we have. I completely agree with him because if we take a break for a few days we can do different things like playing outside rather than being on the internet. If I am given a choice to do the Digital Sabbath I will not do it because it is hard for me to remain away from my computer for a long period of time. I know Digital Sabbath might be a good idea for me to do since I would get more time to go outside and enjoy with my friends and also I won’t remain restless and be more active.
A student’s participation in various activities throughout the community opens the door to not only a better society, but also an improvement in the student’s morality and character. The Dalton School’s mission statement argues that one who is involved in community service “will feel a sense of accomplishment” and their ability to connect with others is enriched. Being that technology is so advanced these days, students are commonly dependent on their electronic devices to get them through the day. Such devices set students back from lending a hand to others due to the fact that they are often distracted by social media and improving society’s view of themselves. By requiring students to take a break from technology and lend a helping hand, they become better people because the student then realizes the importance of human interaction and how just a simple smile can brighten someone’s day.
Also I'm not the only person who does this. Sometimes during your class I would spend too much time talking instead of taking notes. Half the time I wouldn't even look at the board. Then of course I go home thinking I have no homework and I'm stupid enough to not check grade portal. Even if I do check the board I don't wright down the homework anywhere I just go ahead and say I'll remember to do it and I never do.
When first arriving to college, students don’t have the mandatory push that parents and teachers used to give. We are now on our own and for those that lack survival skills, it can be detrimental. For example, there are a lot of things that students don’t know how to do their selves. This can include washing clothes, cooking food, handling money and even time management skills. Without these skills, students can become overwhelmed and retain poor grades in their classes.

Laziness is a disease that almost all suffer from, for example, students often ditch classes, don’t do their homework and fall asleep in class. Another philosopher, Plato, believed that a democratic like government was a bad idea. He agreed that if everyone had a say in decisions, than nothing would get done. This doesn’t only apply in government, but also in the classroom. When students are allowed to work together, they get less done because most of their time is spent talking with friends.
