Rebecca Laessig My Life as a Writer I don't consider myself to be the greatest writer. My grammar has a lot to be improved upon and I always seem to be at a loss for words. with that said, writing is a bit of a challenge for me. I don't hate writing, but I don't necessarily enjoy it either. in my paper, I will write about my accomplishments, routine writings, and major strengths and how they help develop my writing skills today.
For example that piece of work was Wright, it should be that work was right, and spelling and grammar does not identify that mistake. Spelling and grammar mistakes can distract readers from the work that you put into your documents, so you want to eliminate these mistakes. Even so, you probably have your own preferences for how to use your Microsoft Office program to help you do this. You might prefer to check spelling all at once when you
2. When fiction authors write a book it is sometimes mistakenly thought that the author is revealing something about themselves in their writing. This is not always true. The ease of writing about one’s own life is an easy path to follow, because writers are first taught to write about what they know. This should not be a reflection of the fiction or non-fiction being told, it should merely be based upon the conviction of the story and the readers ability to connect to it.
The way I improved my paper was taking my instructors constructive criticism and making the necessary corrections, to the best of my ability. I had obvious problems with the comma usage, dangling modifiers, and it was no question that I have to improve my vocabulary. Referring back to the text book and using the Thesaurus definitely helped me make the best revisions that I can make. The most challenging part of this assignment for me was to expand the use of my vocabulary. I know a lot of words; I just don’t use them in my everyday conversation, thus making it more difficult to incorporate in my essay.
Also it is very one sided as most protesters weren't like that the put themselves across has been clean and passionate about what they are protesting for show that people believe them. For example the last person in the cartoon is port across as being stupid because there is no point trying to sort out the war when America and Vietnam didn't. Another thing it has a tone which means it can't be objective as it is humorous and biased. Representation 3 is comprehensive because it is from a text book, this means that it would have to be comprehensive so that it could teach people or expand people's knowledge about it. I know that it is reliable because is also gives facts and figures.
“‘I spend a lot of time at my desk groaning, wondering why on earth I'm putting myself through it. I spend a lot of time in a state of panic. But when writing goes well, it's marvelous.’” (Pevere 3). To me, this is the most interesting and thought-provoking excerpt in the article because it proves that much of writing is hard work. These words are also very encouraging and eye-opening to me because I used to think the emotions described were a sign that I was not truly a writer.
Faber’s Knowledge Books are something everyone takes advantage of, nobody knows how important they are until they’re gone. In Ray Bradbury’s novel Fahrenheit 451 Montag goes to Faber to seek advice about the books. He finds out Faber’s beliefs in book’s purpose, quality, and the leisure of people. Faber also believes that fear of the truth in books drove people away, and now without the books there is only chaos. When Faber told Montag what the purpose of books were, he spoke, “Books are a receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget,” so without them everything would slowly be forgotten (83).
By performing rhetoric in literary texts the only disadvantage can be the lack, or too much of persuading. For example if the writer lacks persuasion in his text, readers will not feel his story, they will be not impressed and it will be hard and not interesting to read. So it is really important to master art of rhetoric with every character of your story. Even if you are describing environment it should be very easy to imagine the picture of the surroundings. Readers have to visualize the scent, view, feelings, flavor and every detail that helps to personalize characters.
All of this is easily learned and understood, but when you begin to learn when to use comas, colons, and semi-colons, that is when the work becomes difficult. The boring subjects are the last issues that I have with the essays we are assigned in English classes. The subjects are almost always on some novel or a person we have read about in history. If the subjects were on something I liked, I might like English a bit more. Yet and still, I find myself writing my essays on less exciting subjects such as, “Why I hate English.” Second on my list are the thick novels I always find myself not reading.
Jenee Buchwalder Mrs. Leirssano Seminar Advanced English 1, 2 13 April 2010 The Effects of Media with Character Restrictions on the English Language Text messaging abbreviations tend to have a negative connotation to them, based on irritated English teachers who have witnessed various errors due to them. Nonetheless, there have always been people trying to “up the ante” by taking it a step further. Take IMO, for instance. These words have been transformed into IMHO, IMCO, IMHBCO, and IMNSHO (in my humble/considered/humble but considered/not so humble opinion, respectively) (Txtng 53). David Crystal indicates, “This is a form of language play... [the desire to] outdo what has been done before.” This type of minor changes of words are a prime example of the effects of text messaging media on the English language.
