A crowd of hungry people is standing around it creating a loud, whirring and jostling circle. Nevertheless, dozens are standing patiently in the background waiting for the moment to join in. Whenever a person leaves to go to the cash point his place is immediately taken by someone else, restoring a impenetrable human wall. It is only in the early morning or the late evening that the salad bar can be found unoccupied. Seated in the hallway between the A-Building and the B- Building and surrounded by self service counter charged with manifold types of foods and liquids it captures a prominent place in the University. The salad bar is quadrangular, more than two meters high, approximately four square meters big and made from metal. On a high shelf a little above the heads of the consumers there are transparent plastic dishes stacked into one another near little boxes of forks and knifes. Height of the head shields provide information about the different ingredients which can be combined autonomously in the favoured amount. Waist-deep tiny bowls are placed containing all variations of cold food. There are bowls full of walnuts or pine nuts others inclose deep-fried chicken breast, meatballs and fresh tuna. Ironically, just one bowl contains normal lettuce leafs A huge ladle is fixed to every single bowl ensuring that the different ingredients do not get stirred since self service is the principle of A/B-Bistro. The salad is paid at the pay desk. The plastic dish is placed on a weighting machine and the price conforms with the sort of the chosen ingredients and its weight. Compared to the normal canteen the cost / performance ratio is even better, providing a lot of food for a small price. The salad bar in the A/B Bistro is always crowded for good
