“Brainwashing is the application of specific and identifiable techniques that are intended to, and do, undermine an individual’s ability to reason and impair his capacity to exercise an informed consent and replaces those functions with indiscriminate and unconditional obedience to the commands of a single leader,” as stated by Ford Green who was the attorney in Molko, (1190). Brainwashing theories have had different levels of success in the court systems. To see this, we can compare Merone v. Holy Spirit Assn., 125 Misc. 2d 1061, 480 N.Y.S. 2D 706 (1984); Turner v. Unification Church, 602 F.2d 458 (1979); Lewis v. Holy Spirit Assn., 589 f. Supp.
The first part states, “…purely liberal and republican conceptions of civic identity are seen as frequently unsatisfying to many Americans, because they contain elements that threaten, rather than affirm, sincere, reputable beliefs in the propriety of the privileged positions that whites, Christianity, Anglo-Saxon traditions, and patriarchy have had in the United States (Smith 558).” To me, this says that true liberal ideas such as equality to its fullest extent threaten some groups within American culture. For example, many Christian groups in the United States do not support gay marriage rights because this act is contradictory to their beliefs. Rogers Smith would argue
Tannen’s writing is lengthy, personal, analytical and well sourced. Even though the differences between these two pieces can easily be highlighted there are some similarities. Both Tannen and Quindlen believe there are obvious differences and similarities between men and women. However, when specifically observing the relationship between men and women Tannen believes the main differences lie in communication, reactions, the way life is approached and the dynamics of childhood.
How does the situation change based on actual performance data provided in the Excel file on Blackboard? 3) What are the processing and delivery costs to fulfill average order at Peapod? (These are the key components in Peapod’s cost-to-serve. The question requires some detective work and estimation, given that all the data is not available) Conducting some secondary internet search, I found that the average basket size is over $157 and that customers typically shop twice a month. Their effectiveness is due to how the examples display our, America’s, usage of Christian beliefs compared to what the actual beliefs say. His most effective example would have to be when he describes how America breaks one of the Ten Commandments themselves. It is true we are a nation that still permits the death penalty. However, the irony he displays sets it apart from the others because the sixth commandment itself says “Thou Shall Not Kill.” Not only that, his perspective of how we say we are Christian is also good for his argument. One negative aspect to his essay would have to be his bias toward conservatives and the rich.
With this going on, it is no wonder why others believe that Evangelicals are motivated by hate. It has struck fear into many. There are groups that even feel that they are being persecuted by Evangelicals. Philip Yancey finally realizes at the end of the article where Evangelicals have gone wrong. “A person must court a virgin differently than a divorcee (Yancey, 2005).” Yancey realizes that the first words a non-believer should hear should not be of death but of love.

The Government then had to find a way to get some control of Utah and this began in 1874 with the Poland Act gaining control over the courts of the territory. The Mormons challenged this in the case Reynolds v. United States which stated that these acts violated their first amendments religious rights. It was the Mormons religious beliefs that polygamy was acceptable but in this instance I had to side with the court because although they might find it acceptable it was not in the good of the whole nation. Polygamy has no good in it maybe the ones who could afford it found it as a status sign to say I’m of a higher level than the rest of them. Most of the ones who practiced polygamy were the leaders such as John Smith that is why some of the followers got angry when they found out this was part of the practice.
Not every state agrees that gay marriage is wrong and illegal, but if the federal government were to pass a amendment outlawing gay marriage then every state who allows gay marriage would have to declare it unconstitutional and against the law. This shows that the federal and state governments have different restrictions. The state government protects the people of the state but the federal government protects everything in this country. Once something is declared unconstitutional, it will over ride any state government policy. Some people have mixed emotions about the way the government works but overall the relationship between state and federal governments protect the everyday
Although Afghan and American culture both encourages marriage, the differences of methods are monumental. In Afghan culture,
