People were afraid of the domino theory. They were afraid if South Vietnam fell to communism that the rest of Southeast Asia would follow. With time the American people grew tired of the war. When Charlie was hard to find and there was no end to the war, nobody wanted to be involved anymore. Americans were so tired of the war that the feelings were reflected in the election of Johnson vs Nixon.
The message of the representation is that Americans is losing the war and wants out and it is clearly shown in the poster "I WANR OUT". This shows that it is accurate because I know from my own personal knowledge that the 1971 protest in America were getting bigger, more violent and serious for the government. However, representation 3 is not totally accurate because not all of America were against the war. I know this because there was a huge questionnaire on if people were against or for the war. 40% said they were for the war and 60% said against the war.
AN AFFAIR TO FORGET Corporate America was flabbergasted when Boeing dismissed its executive president for carrying out an affair with a female executive. It has been a favorite topic of debate when Harry Stonecipher was asked to clear out his desk subsequent to the deliberation of the company’s ethics and legal board when they got hold of the knowledge of the affair. I strongly believe that the decision to have Stonecipher resign at command was rather tough but logical. As Boeing and the defense industries understood the repercussions of a sex scandal at the crest of one of America's largest corporations, it turned out to be apparent that it was not just the relationship but the incidences of it which potted Stonecipher's providence. The
The Vietnam War was completely different. The majority of the American people did not want to be involved in Vietnam and made it very clear to the entire nation. Without the support from the home front it is almost impossible to succeed. The American people were so passionate about maintaining peace for America that they actually caused chaos on American soil. The anti-war movements and protests reflected on the soldiers in Vietnam and led to the defeat of the US armed forces.
He also makes it seem like everything is crumbling around Paul, and destroying all hope of survival and return to normal life for anyone who had experienced the front line. This is very different from pro-war poetry, which makes war seem fun. Something Remarque does either subconsciously or very well, is to make you feel sorry for the German and Central Powers’ soldiers, and to grow a subliminal hate for the allied soldiers, no matter who’s side you came in on. The Textbook also does this well, but in reverse. The Textbook gives off a sense of dislike towards the Central Powers, and made them seem primitive and destructive for no reason.
Distressed by this unprecedented upsurge of mass fury, which needed federal troops at some places to establish peace, the then President, Lyndon Johnson, set up an enquiry commission formally known as the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders, which later on became more popular as the Kerner Commission, after its chairman, Otto J. Kerner Jr. While ruling out any conspiracy, the commission identified racial discrimination, poverty, high unemployment, poor & inadequate schools, poor health care and sanitation as major contributing factors to the United States’ racial apartheid. The early & selective leakage of this report incited ferocious criticism from the White community. Critics argued, that the report has blamed everyone except the rioters. The opposition was so strong and intense that, Johnson not only declined the request by commission members, but also took additional six months to disseminate its findings to the public at large and put the issue in right perspective, but he himself failed to act upon it.
The Prime Minister is very passive. Although he is sad about losing some British citizens in the crashes, he is dealing more with the living relatives rather than thinking of the future. He does appeal to pathos by mentioning the time when a middle-aged mother asked why it was her son who was killed in the crash. Although they both appeal to pathos through their speeches, Bush appeals more because of his powerful diction with usage of many “we” and “us” phrases whereas Blair uses “I” phrases. Bush allows us glimpses into his true feelings about 9/11.
Aiming to win back support from the American’s, as many people did not support the Vietnam war due to the bad media that was publicised. This was the first War to be so publicised and it shocked many of the people back home. This lead to Anti-War protest, which became one of the US governments aims to stop. However they still stuck to the aim to try and contain Vietnam from the spread of communism and supporting the SV defeat the VC in nearby country Cambodia. On the other side the aims of the NV government and their terrorist organisation the VC did not alter as they still aimed to persuade the SV government to vote for Vietnam to become a communist country.
He recalls "Maggie fussed around, bullied us into two lines... then she proceeded to go down the lined up Cabinet like a sergeant". This personality would not have been popular amongst her party and would favour opposition parties as they could see splits in the Conservative government. Another reason why Thatcher fell from power is because of Michael Heseltine. Commonly known as "Tarzan" due to his beautiful, flowing locks and his muscular, burly attitude, Heseltine and Thatcher shared a rivalry greater than any other in the Conservative party. On one particular occasion, Heseltine and Thatcher argued over a bid for the British helicopter company.
The War in Iraq Isn’t it interesting how the media portraits the war in Iraq? It’s always the negative points and never the good ones. There is so much disbelief and lying about our military and government that it is disgusting! Everyone believes that this war is pointless and stupid, however it needed to be done to make an example! The United States is the strongest government in the world and the media puts it down so very hard.
