Case Report on Dual Digital Media CRN 30525 - Payroll Management Processes Mt. Royal University – Continuing Education Date:Jue 7,2010 CASE SUMMARY Dual Digital Media is a Canadian based technology business which originally started as a family computer company that has become an international provider of digital media in different forms. The company operated in three (3) Canadian provinces and has expanded its operations nationally and internationally through the acquisition of smaller firms of similar vision. In conjunction with these acquisitions DDM has acquired a range of payroll processing methods, systems, pay cycles and reporting structures. Currently 11 staff assist with payroll delivery for 1238 staff at 5 different site locations. DDM’s current business plan includes centralizing support services in one year. The goal of this change is to reduce overhead costs and make the company more profitable. Payroll will be one of the departments to be centralized. THE MAJOR ISSUE Our major issue will be to determine the set up of our payroll and HR Systems for the entire company. There are few other minor issues can be considered such as: there are many payroll system being used in different sites, several payroll cycles , reporting and remittance mode, manual payroll for executives, no standard vacation policy, presence of different employee groups, thus the two collective agreements on two operating sites which have an impact on payroll, the company has no clear-cut policies and guidelines on recruitment, maintenance and training of employees in its operating sites, which greatly affects payroll operations etc. Several factors will be affected by our decision to set up one or two payroll system for the entire company such as: where payroll will be centralized, the pay frequency of payroll, what systems or service providers will be used and
