Police Officers Assaulted or Killed in the Line of Duty Becoming a law enforcement officer can be one of the most rewarding jobs in the world. However, being a law enforcement officer can also be a very dangerous job. Statistics show that officers killed or assaulted in the line of duty is on the rise. The goal of policing has five basic goals: enforce laws, preserve the peace, prevent crimes, protect civil rights and civil liberties and provide services. The men and woman of law enforcement risk their lives daily to make sure the citizens in their area are safe.
Instead of staying in a darkened room, the commanders should be training their officers on how to combat this action and help actual reduce the crimes not cover them up. They need to make sure that officers know the importance of CompStat and how it benefits their department. CompStat can be a great tool, but it must be implemented and used correctly and information cannot be falsified to give data that is wanted. If the information is correct than it can help us ensure that our police department are working to actually reduce crime not just to make their department look good. This is a pivotal part in terms of maintain the functioning of society and to ensure that people don’t go around breaking laws wherever and whenever they want. The criminal justice system is therefore a central part of society and without is society would quickly deteriorate into chaos. There are however a number of issues in the criminal justice system. Some of these issues include false convictions and bias within the courtroom. I feel as if the US needs to be more careful with their way of getting such law enforcement officers. Internal attacks can be more difficult to find as attackers have the potential to remove any evidence of the attack more easily as they have more knowledge or access rights on the system as opposed to an outside attack.
