Unit 1- D1 Evaluation of the Influence different stakeholders exert on Tesco Plc Tesco is one of the biggest companies in the UK as they sell 1 item out 8 in the UK; Tesco is very competitive against other big super markets such as Asda and Morrison’s and they have dominated market as they provide people with services and sell a wide range of products. There are different pressure groups such as friend of the earth they are groups which control Tesco’s policy from buying large amount of land to build new stores, this group fight over local authority for planning, the FOE is a stakeholder, they are capable of having considerable influence over Tesco’s, they can stop Tesco’s from planning stores, if they have enough people behind them. However, Tesco can defend itself by claiming that they are taking action to peruse their customer’s interest. Many governments show their concern about the major impact that big supermarkets will have on their communities but some supermarkets are very strong so the governments are unable to do anything to stop their planning system. Tescopoly is a small online pressure group which aims to expose and limit what they see as a market distorting power. This group’s main target is to see where Tesco has taken advantage to build retail outlets and went beyond planning regulations. Tesco is very aware that the company’s most influential stake holders are its share holders. Tesco will want to maintain good relations with its share holders holding meetings and presentations often in order to response to their share holder’s enquiries. They also listen to their share holders regarding issues including strategies to corporate governance.
