Romeo is talking in paradoxes; he does this to emphasize that love is confusing. He says that love is everything except for what it actually is. Since Romeo thinks that he is in love although no one loves him, love can be two things that are opposites at the same time. Although Romeo is happy to be in love, he does not like the thought of love itself because if no one loves him back, love will become more confusing. Romeo is hopelessly in love with Rosalind which he explains when he says, "I am too sore enpiercèd with his shaft To soar with his light feathers, and so bound, I cannot bound a pitch above dull woe.
Rosaline is unobtainable, just like Juliet was at first. Romeo's words for his love for Rosaline are very insincere and he discusses his love for Rosaline using sad language "Aye me sad hours seem long", "In sadness, cousin, I love a woman." When Benvolio asks who he loves, Romeo does not give a straight answer but instead complains that she does not return his love "From Love's weak childish bow she lives uncharmed."
The superficial nature of Daisy is that she’s pretending she’s in a happy marriage with Tom, when she’s not. She’s not in a happy marriage because her husband is cheating on her. Daisy comes off as being charming and happy but she’s really lonely. She laugh and says, “I’m p-paralyzed with happiness.”(pg. 13) Daisy is contentious about the way people look at her so she tries to be more charming.

Cyrano is a popular man, known for his big nose, who is in love with a woman named Roxane, his cousin, who is loved by another man named Christian. Putting his feelings aside, Cyrano decides to help Christian win the heart of Roxane by reciting poems to her. Roxane agrees to marry Christian, before him and Cyrano head off to war were Cyrano will risk his life daily crossing enemy front to go send a letter on behalf of Christian to Roxanne.
The women are frustrated that their men are not being attentive to their needs, and the men are frustrated that the women are not meeting their sexual needs. This is a comical element to the drama, however it does prove once again that men and women did not have the same value. To best demonstrate this Lysistrata voices her frustration by saying, “And as for lovers, there’s not even a ghost of one left. Since the Milesians revolted from us…” [470]. She then says that she has a plan to end the war, withhold sex from the men, “…if we are to force our men to make peace, we must do without.” [470].
Desdemona is Othello’s wife who he is madly in love with and Iago preys upon Othello’s jealous personality and trusting nature to convince Othello of his wife’s infidelity resulting in the ultimate downfall of Othello – death. Othello’s downfall is caused by his own weakness due to his trusting nature and willingness to believe anything he is told. Early in the play, it becomes evident that Othello is blind to Iago’s evil when Iago says “I am not what I am” (I.i,65). This statement foreshadows Othello’s downfall as it is his trust in Iago, which causes it. Othello believes Iago’s lies and always listens to his advice throughout the play.

In Cyrano de Bergerac outer beauty is seen as a priority in the beginning of the play, Cyrano has the need to push his not appealing appearance to the world and defends himself with his quick wit when he is offended. Even though Cyrano has an exquisite inner beauty he seems to only care about his exterior . Christian on the other hand is beautiful but does not have a personality nor the ability to express his feelings. Cyrano and Christian battle for Roxane's love throughout the play and Roxane decides inner beauty is greater than outer beauty although she felt outer beauty was more important in the beginning. In her view women were not different than men. Bradstreet also shows identity for the Puritan men that criticize her work because men had more talent and skill, which come in handy in the society, but she sees that it’s unfair.
