CYP 3.4 – Support children and young people's health and safety assessment 1.1 Describe the factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environments and services. There are a number of factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environments and services. The individual needs of the child, their age and ability and to ensure that equipment and resources are age and stage appropriate. If I have a child with specific needs I would need to have specialised equipment that would be adaptable for the needs of the child. All equipment should be clean and fit for use, including safety gates and cupboard / drawer locks.
1.2 Explain how health and safety is monitored and maintained and how people in the work setting are made aware of risks and hazards and encouraged to work safely. The persons responsible for the health and safety school should carry out the safety checks or make sure that these take place on a regular basis. • Safety checks should also be made on all equipment. • All electrical items used in school should have annual checks. • pond is securely covered or otherwise guarded.
* To provide a safe and healthy environment for our children to grow, learn and play. 1.2 If you had any concerns regards health and safety who would you report it to and why? If I or another member of staff notices or have any concerns about health and safety issues we would report it to 1 of 3 members of the management team in the nursery so they can get it sorted as soon as possible. 1.3 Explain what a risk assessment is and describe how this is managed within your setting. A risk assessment is identifying a hazard which may cause harm and doing everything possible to stop that hazard hurting anyone.
I would also make sure that the children are put into small groups when washing their hands because it then avoids any incidents and all children are kept safe. Another thing I would change would be the soap the children use, I would give them different
Body forms to indicate if a child comes in from home and the parent/carer tells us of a mark on the child or a member of staff notices a mark on them the form is then signed by the parent/carer at the end of the session. 1.2 Having a duty of care should guarantee the safeguarding of children in my care. Risk Assessments – carrying out and reviewing risk assessments for all of the activities we do and places we visit ensures that thought and concern is given to how we do things every day, this way I ensure risks concerning equipment, venues and activities are minimised and therefore reducing the risk of injury or harm to the children and myself. Recognising potential hazards and eliminating them, this could include infectious diseases too. Policies and Procedures – having clear rules and boundaries ensures that both adults and children (who are able to understand) know how to conduct themselves within the setting, by this I mean not behaving in ways that could cause distress or harm to others within the setting.
Dentures need to be cleaned twice a day to stop tooth decay and gum disease. Once the person has been made aware of these facts and had it explained that having a strip wash/shower/bath will make them feel better in my experience they usually agree to having the personal care done. Explain how to report concerns about the safety and hygiene of equipment or facilities used for personal care. Safety equipment should have a sticker on stating the month and year it was tested. If the equipment hasn t then is should not be used as it is a danger to yourself and the client.
Before you carry out a treatment you need to sanitize your work area making sure all tools and stones you are to use are disinfected/sterilized, all towels are clean dry and unused, you need to make sure you have the correct lighting for each individual treatment, you have a height adjustable chair for yourself and that the couch is at the correct height also. All wires need to be trail free, any electrical equipment is annually PAT tested and that they are working correctly before you start the treatment, that they are not placed near any water and there are no obstructions around the work area and you need to follow COSSH regulations when using flammable liquids. Describe the different consultation techniques used to identify treatment objectives required for stone therapy treatment. Different consultation techniques would include
CYP Core 3.4 1.1 There are a few factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environments and services. The individual needs of the child these must be considered along with the age and ability so when planning for the children make sure the resources used are age and stage appropriate and they carry the safety marks. There must be specialist equipment for children with specific needs, so must be able to adapt to the needs of child. Specific risks for a child who has a hearing impairment you would need to provide visual aids for them or sign language so they are aware of the health and safety for example if the child was running indoors you could show them a visual aid of a picture where it’s made clear that you walk not run. Placing pictures of hands being washed near the toilets also teaches them to wash their hands when they have been to the toilet.
Explain what it means to have a duty of care in own work roll. ‘Duty of care’ is a legal obligation that staffs have to adhere to keep others safe in the settings and to protect them. In our child care settings we do this in many ways; We carry out a daily checks to maintain the safety of the environment. Risk assessments are done before each session e.g. the temperature of the rooms to make sure not to hot or cold, wear and tear of any toys are safe to use, electrical equipment is out of reach from children, plug protectors are in sockets, wipes and aprons are available to use, garden check is complete and the area is safe to use, that the bathroom and baby changing areas, kitchen area, tables are all cleaned and anti-back sprayed to prevent spread of germs and infections.
For example in my placement there are different services available for children such as speech therapists, one to one help and special needs teachers. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 This Act makes sure that all employers meet certain rules to ensure that everyone is safe in their place of work. It also means that all employees in a children's setting has responsibility for health and safety of anyone who is there. For example, in my placement all the staff make sure that their hands are washed and that the children wash their hands before eating food to avoid spreading any kind of illnesses. The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations, 1995 (RIDDOR) This Act requires the reporting of work related accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences.
