However, with the advancement in technology and its wide use, a new type of bullying has developed, cyberbullying, which is when a person uses technology and/or electronic devices to bully another person, typically by sending messages or posting comments of an intimidating or threatening nature. What makes cyber-bullying much more dangerous than regular bullying is that because if it on the internet, it will stay there for a long time and for everyone to see. What’s worse, is that the bully can easily hide under a different name or profile, making it harder to find out who is responsible in terms of facing consequences. It is very important to delete cyberbullying because when teenagers begin to abuse the convenience of the internet to harass others, it creates a very dangerous environment that extends outside the classroom or school. When someone is being harassed or embarrassed online, it reaches far outside of their world, and strangers all
Ariel Widener February 21, 2012 Different Punishments With the world at a standstill on punishment the stories, “Bring Back Flogging” and “Douse” tell stories of two different purposes brought together leading to the same outcome of the punishment pursued inside the words written. “Bring Back Flogging” talks about the punishment in the old days as well as the modern times. On the other hand, “Douse” states different situations dealing with the Internet pinpointing cyber-bullying. These two stories are more in common when they are looked at closely. “Bring Back Flogging” and “Douse” are two different stories, but in the end they are alike in more ways than one seeing letting inmates out early on good behavior compare to cyber-bullying
Modest Proposal Cyber bullying is an issue seen nationwide that is dangerously overlooked. Cyber bullying takes place over social networks such as Facebook and Twitter and over text messaging. Bullies are known to go after a group or person with “lower power”. There has been a rise in cyber bullying over the past few years and not nearly enough precautions are being taken to prevent this issue. Cyber bullying is legally defined as actions that use information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group that is intended to harm another or others.
CENSORSHIP Eunice Siu 9-5 As the Charter of Rights and Freedom states each person has his or her own right to express their own thought, belief, opinion, and expression. Especially, on the Internet, a place where most people are anonymous. A problem that can cause the content to corrupt our minds even more than it already has, the harm can effect generations that follow. Cyber-bullies who post the messages that are on the Internet can cause hurt feelings. Thus, the Internet Service Provider(s) [ISP(s)] should make it mandatory for whatever is being posted to have filters, blocks on the content (censoring)- a better filter than we have right now because the main filtering is mainly for pictures (Example: porn).
Yosr Gamal Miss Lynn English April 18, 2013 Bullying victims Teen suicide is a major issue in today’s society. Teen suicide has been the topic of numerous news headlines. Many of these victims were Amanda Todd, Tyler Clementi, Olivia Penpraze, Rehtaeha Parsons and many more that ended their own lives because of bullying. While nice in theory, TOR is not publically accepted and is widely regarded as the “darkweb” due to the sheer amount of illicit content accessible. PRISM is an ongoing data-mining program created and heavily used by the NSA. In theory, PRISM is to be used for the investigation of foreign targets, but its scope has been broadened as the data collected by PRISM affects most citizens internationally. With societies current dependence on internet giants such as Microsoft and Google, it is near impossible to avoid
However there are still many contemporary issues concerning consumers, in particular marketing and technology (if needed). Marketing is a way companies create interest in their product, and the internet has led to the growth of fraudulent behavior, most notably SPAM and the Pyramid Schemes. Marketing and advertising through misleading advertising, offering prizes and gifts, the use of bait advertising although illegal is a very large problem. Although the ACCC does prosecute false and misleading advertising eg ACCC vs Nissan motors, they have only limited resources and a lack of severe penalties and as a consequence many people continue to break the law. Similarly, technology has had a significant impact on how laws have had to be created and reformed in order to protect the rights of consumers.
Cyber bullying is a huge issue that many people don’t acknowledge, but it in fact does affect at least 80 percent of adolescents. This is probably because there are many life changing issues happening that are prioritized over cyber bullying (e.g. Teen pregnancy, effects of smoking, being on the phone while driving etc.) but people need to realize cyber bullying has harmful effects too, such as making teens depressed and causing them to take their lives. Not many people are educated on cyber bullying.
Cyber bullying is the use of electronic communication to harass, intimidate or bully a person by sending messages or videos that are intimidating and threatening. School officials saw the potential harm of this new age technology but only focused on two areas; predators and pornography. Although school officials feel they missed the target when this first hit; however, it is not to late to redirect our earlier approach to this very sensitive but needed topic. Cyber bullying can be more dangerous than bullying because
Social media can create a false sense of reality because a lot of things on social media are not what they seem. Many teens want to obtain these false realities which creates disappointment in themselves. From the article, there is evidence to prove why people become so easily addicted to social media. Social media engages the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex and using this part of the brain creates a natural inclination to social media compulsiveness. I believe excessive use of social media is more dangerous for young adults because the part of the brain that does the decision making is still growing and developing.
