Curiosity Created the Cat

Curiosity; the desire to learn or know about something. Curiosity is the main reason there are so many different people in our society. Some choose the dangerous and risky lifestyle, by pursuing that constant pull of curiosity, and others choose the more unenthused way of life, to avoid the consequences that inquisitiveness can often bring. In the poem “Curiosity” by Alastair Reid, I believe that he refers the cats and dogs to the kinds people that live in our world today. The cats are free at heart and live their lives on the edge, “living irresponsible, marrying too many wives, and desert their children”. The cat represents the risk takers, the people who are not afraid to get more out of life, despite the possible outcomes. Coincidentally, the dogs are worrisome, avoid taking risks, and believe that they are living their lives immaculately “In doggy circles where well-smelt baskets, suitable wives and good lunches are the order of things”. The dog represents the people who never tend to take risky chances, worry too much, and live by the rules. They are afraid of the negative effects that taking risks often prevails, such as death or pain, so they spend their entire lives being wallflowers to the real world. I believe that taking risks and exploring new situations makes life both more exciting and worthwhile. As Reid hinted in the poem “Curiosity”, “Dying is what the living do, that dying is what the loving do, and that dead dogs are those who never know that dying is what, to live, each has to do”, in order to truly know how it feels to live your life to its fullest, you must take the risks that curiosity presents to you. Many people do not understand the true meaning of life, so they think that living is breathing, and being physically alive. When really, the true meaning of life is living, taking chances, chasing dreams and pursuing happiness. These
