Canada is a relatively new and multicultural country, so it has many cultures. On the other hand, Bangladesh is a small country, but it has a long cultural history. In fact, there are several differences between Canadian culture and Bangladeshi culture. Firstly, one of the most important differences between Canadian culture and Bangladeshi culture is dietary habits. In Canada, people’s life is busy; they do not get time for cooking at home, so they prefer to eat fast food. Therefore, they often take out food from different restaurants before going home. Canadian’s families hardly get together at dinner time to share food with their extended families because of their busy life style. For example, families usually share and get together with friends and their extended families on special occasions such as birthdays, Anniversaries etc although they cannot celebrate those occasions on the same dates; therefore, they celebrate them on weekends. However, most of the Bangladeshi people like to eat homemade food; especially at dinner time, they get together and share food with their extended families. Bangladeshi people like to celebrate different kinds of occasions, and in every occasion, they prepare different kinds of dishes. For example, Bengali New Year is one of the biggest occasions for them; people wear red and white combination of dresses and eat a special food, which is called “Panta Elish”. People get time to enjoy most of the occasions because they can get help from other people if they want, but in Canada, it might not be possible. Secondly, another major difference between Canadian culture and Bangladeshi culture is household responsibilities. In Canada, the household chores are equally divided between men and women. For example, if someone do laundry, then the other one folds and put them into the closet, and if someone cook food, then other one wash dishes.
