Italian people are most greatly known for their love of their culture of food. Italy brings a lot to the table for Canada in terms of food. Italy has 20 regions, and each region has its own traditional food and wine. Italian food does not consist of only pizza and spaghetti, Italians use a variety of vegetables, such as tomatoes, eggplants, onions, garlic, peas, and pepper in their cuisine. Italian food and wine are well known in Canada and are enjoyed throughout. Canada has adapted many different ways of expressing Italian food and drinks. For example, Canada has adapted huge amounts of pizzeria’s, which allow workers to create homemade pizzas, just as the Italians do in Italy. Wine has become very popular in Canada, and there are even ways to recreate the original ways of the Italians, by creating homemade wine in the comfort of your own house (ex. Fermenting the wine, and bottling it). Other things such as fresh bread and baguettes are hugely popular in grocery stores and shops today in Canada, which is one of the most common foods eaten at dinner in Italy, along with cheese and wine. Customs for Italians have a wide range that mainly consist of close family and friendship ties. Italians have originated the popular customs that we see in Canada today, such as large family get together and dinners, and frequently visiting close friends to share joy and/or sorrow. Italians love to keep close bonds with their family and friends, and like to make as many memories with them as they can. For example, more recent generations have adapted the ways of their parents and grandparents, such as mothers in today’s society cooking huge family dinners and inviting everyone over, making sure everybody feels welcome and leaves full of good food and good memories.
