A significant part of cultural policy today is focused on 'heritage.' Drawing on both theory and concrete examples of policies supporting cultural heritage, discuss why the past is seen as relevant for our lives and why policy makers give much consideration to cultural heritage and provide financial backing for institutions and exhibitions concerned with the past. This essay will explain about Cultural Heritage and the importance of it to our lives, and why policy makers give such consideration to Cultural Heritage and the way in which they provide financial backing for institutions and exhibitions. To best answer the question it is important to understand what Cultural Heritage is and the reason Cultural Policy is focused on it. The theorist that shall be drawn upon concerning Cultural Heritage and given examples of shall be Hobsbawm and the Organisations shall be UNESCO and The National Trust; which will then be discussed as to the importance to our lives and why Policy Makers finance certain aspects of Cultural Heritage. Cultural Heritage is the inheritance of artefacts from the past, most of which have been inherited from past generations these are then maintained and kept secure for the present and future generations. The term for keeping Cultural Heritage is called Conservation; it is often unique and irreplaceable, which places great responsibility on the generation that are currently in charge of conserving the heritage. Such objects like art pieces are collected by museums and art galleries where they are then shown to the general public to teach them about our Cultural Heritage, this therefore creates an image of past lives. Objects are important to the study of human history as they provide a concrete base for ideas and can then be validated. Their conservation shows an acknowledgment of the requirement of the past.
