I attended many workshops and sessions that relate to psychology (I did a course in psychology) and speech therapy. It was interesting to see the good effect of having parents and carers involved with the different therapies. The life experiences that I have had, also equipped me with the tools necessary for this field (i.e. mental health nursing). I started off with the challenging role of running my own Nursery, which helped me to develop the ability to liaise with other services and professional and subsequently allowed me to get the training required to manage, plan, and monitor the working environment ensuring the safety and well-being of the children and staff.
They provide their students with instruction and tools to help them learn and apply concepts in subjects such as math, English, science, and history. Along with the concepts and tools, the environment inside the classroom helps the students develop into responsible adults. A teacher’s work setting is more structured on a day-to-day basis but do deal with stressful situations such as large classes, heavy workloads, and taking work home (BLS “teachers”1). Nurses have the important role of assisting the doctor in treating and educating the patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury. They explain the importance of post-treatment home care such as nutrition, rehabilitation programs, and administering medication (BLS “Nurse”1).
Identify and know about any codes of practice relevant to your work. A code of practice gives helpful guidance and lays down the standards expected to support good practice. a) Think of a particular situation when you were able to treat children, young people, their families and their care crs with respect. I was able to go on supervised contact with a young person whereby they went to visit their parents at their family home. I was able to treat both the young person and their parents with respect by ensuring that I allowed for them both to have time to talk amongst themselves rather than me involving myself entirely in their conversation.
Along with protecting the children from any harm we also have to safeguard ourselves avoiding risk of accusations of misconduct in the work place, acting professional throughout the whole working day. 2.1: Describe potential conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between the duty of care and an individual’s rights. 2.2: Describe how to manage risks associated with conflicts or dilemmas between an individual’s rights and the duty of care. As a practitioner we have a responsibility for children as we take on a temporary role in their lives. The Role of the Nurse A review of what has been noted regarding the purpose of the nurse in the school setting indicates that professionals working in this area are responsible for addressing the health and educational needs of children (Lee, 2011). More precisely Lee goes on to argue that “The purpose of the school nurse is to serve as a team member in
Effective preschool classrooms are places where children feel well cared for and safe. They are places where children are valued as individuals and where their needs for attention, approval, and affection are supported. They are also places where children can be helped to acquire a strong foundation in the knowledge and skills needed for school success. Research shows beyond question that it is through having many opportunities to talk as well as to listen to teachers and peers that children gain language skills so valuable for their success in reading and writing. The more children know about their world, the easier it is for them to read and learn when they get to school.
This point has been supported by evidence derived from numerous publications, which suggest that parents generally know their child the best, and are the main educator in the child’s life (Essa, 2007). Thus it is imperative that early learning practitioners use their role to encourage parents to be involved in their child’s learning, which can help to increase self-confidence in parenting and support feelings of belonging and inclusion in their child’s development. The implementation of partnership with parents as a part of my workshop plan provides additional resources for the nursery’s learning community (Eldridge, 2001), as knowledge gain from such interactions can allow early learning practitioners to gain greater understanding of family cultures, an increased appreciation of parental interest in helping their children and a deeper respect for parent’s time and abilities. Successful
When parents and practitioners work together, it has been shown to improve children's cognitive, social and emotional outcomes. I am always respectful and non-judgemental of parent’s views and opinions and welcome any questions parents may have. I like to ask many questions about a child’s likes/dislikes, religious views, diet, and many more! At the initial meeting I will show parents the rooms and areas that the children will have access to, explain the kinds of activities that we do and show the parents my relevant qualifications and certificates. This is also a good time to go through the contract and make any mutually agreed adaptations.
