CU1530 Promote Communication In Health, Social Care Or Children’s and Young People’s Settings. 1.1 Identify the different reasons people communicate. Communication is a key element in every aspect of our lives and is a way of sharing information from one party to another. It is important that people communicate to help build relationships between parents, practitioners, health care professionals and any other person who may have contact with a particular child. By keeping open channels of communication we are able to maintain relationships between all parties. Communication is a way of expressing our feelings, building trust and sharing ideas and thoughts. By taking this approach we are able to gain and share information that can be used to inform and influence the way that we work. 1.2 Explain how communication affects relationships in the work setting By having effective ways of communication the practitioner is able to work effectively with those children and their families and establish good relationships. By having open and good ways of communicating with each other it enables all parties to have a very good understanding of each child’s individual needs and it will help form part of their development plan. Body language and facial expressions are a form of communicating, and by having these good communication skills, practitioners are more likely to have strong relationships with the children and their parents. It is essential that practitioners maintain a professional relationship and communicate effectively as it will help to breakdown any tensions, help with transitions from one setting to another, settle the child into settings, have a good understanding of the child and working in partnership with the parents. 2.2 Describe the factors to consider when promoting effective communication.
