Crossing Arizona Reaction Paper Crossing Arizona is a documentary directed by Daniel DeVivo and Joseph Matthew. It depicts the grim realities of illegal immigration in Southern region of America. The film breaks down the process of illegal immigration and follows people from Central America and Mexico as they cross through the Arizona desert. Thousands of women and children have crossed the hot Arizona deserts to reunite with their families over the border. The main problem at hand is the rising death toll of these immigrants due to the harsh weather conditions and their lack of water to keep hydrated while crossing the deserts. This causes issues of human rights, class, culture and national security. Humanitarian groups believe that immigrants are simply victims of horrible economic circumstances and do not deserve to be without basic necessities such as water and food in their home countries. Chris Simcox, founder of the Minute Men, established a citizen patrol group whose sole objective is to guard the Arizona/Mexican border. This private patrol group and many others like it are frequently heavily armed due to the threat of armed immigrant smugglers. This documentary tries to explain that the large migration of people is due to neoclassic economics, and that the people immigrating through the Arizona desert are doing so in search of better lives and better jobs. The way I see it is, there are two sides to this argument and there are excellent points to be made for both sides. One side is that although this form of immigration is illegal, it is the only means that these people have to escape their country for whatever reason it may be. Most of the people who cross are just people simply looking for better job opportunities and most likely do not have the financial means to migrate legally.
