This paper uses concepts from the strategic design lens to identify the factors that have been facilitating and hindering the change process at Dynacorp. Overall, the company seems to have done a good job of analyzing its fit with the environment and crafting a strategy that is likely to be responsive to that environment. The strategic groupings seem well-suited to the strategic intent, positioning Dynacorp to be a geographically-focused, industry-specific organization that is organized to bring cross-functional talent to bear on the service as well as hardware needs of its customer. Dynacorp has failed, however, to give adequate attention to strategic linking processes, thus decreasing the chances for its organizational change effort to succeed. STRATEGIC DESIGN ANALYSIS The strategic design lens looks at an organization as an operation that has been “deliberately set up to achieve strategic goals…” (Ancona, Kochan, Scully, Van Maanen, & Westney, 1999: M-2, 10).
_____________________________ Emphasize the Importance of Communications Encourage, and perhaps most importantly, respect and acknowledge the value of candid communication within your organization; this is a risk mitigator and an innovation multiplier. Communicating the “Why” is just as important, if not more so, than the “How.” When your people are challenged with decision/action points for which there was/is no specific guidance, understanding the “Why” can enable them to take the right action. Communication is the foundation of innovation - and just about everything

Applying Keller’s Brand Equity Model in a B2B Context: Limitations and an Empirical Test Kerri Kuhn and Frank Alpert Griffith University Abstract It has been recognised that brands play a role in industrial markets, but to date a comprehensive model of business-to-business (B2B) branding does not exist, nor has there been an empirical study of the applicability of a full brand equity model in a B2B context. This paper is the first to begin to address these issues. The paper introduces the CustomerBased Brand Equity (CBBE) model by Kevin Keller (1993; 2001; 2003), and empirically tests its applicability in the market of electronic tracking systems for waste management. While Keller claims that the CBBE pyramid can be applied in a B2B context, this research highlights challenges of such an application, and suggests changes to the model are required. Assessing the equity of manufacturers’ brand names is more appropriate than measuring the equity of individual product brands as suggested by Keller.
