Critical thinking is a process of identification and evaluation of evidence when making a decision and it will clarify a task and finally guide to the best outcome. Some people might say “I know how to think”, “I have been thinking all of my life”, however, it is not easy to think critically. People have to learn, practice, and improve the habits of critical thinking in order to achieve it. Here there are some critical thinking habits most useful in interpreting in “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Gilman which are ask questions, define terms and concepts, and analyze assumptions and biases.
The Importance of Critical Thinking Euphemia Cruz MGT/350 Dr. Suresh Kumar Critical thinking is an essential skill that is utilized in the decision making process. It forces individuals to think “outside of the norm” and seek an alternate solution for an issue or problem. The critical thinking process of making a decision is based on observation, research, analysis, implementation, and results. It is a disciplined process of decision making that requires a non-biased, self-driven, rational mind that can improve the quality of intellectual integrity ("Defining Critical Thinking", 2008). Thinking critically when making decisions that may have a significant impact on one’s life is crucial whether as a student, parent, professional, or even involving personal matters.
Whether it was basic immaturity, peer pressure, pregnancy or some other issue is not the main concern. What is more pertinent is whether or not you have the tools to be successful in the present. Some questions that we can ask ourselves are 1) Are those factors that kept me from completing school still affecting my life, 2) Are there new obstacles that will keep me from completing this new goal, and 3)Am I prepared and motivated to make a commitment to complete my education in order to reach my new goals. Write these answers down for review. If you are uncertain about the answers, take some time to reflect or make a couple of phone calls to an old friend.
Human service workers need to be prepared for all situations, and have feedback on how well their programs are working. Typically, the next step in the program planning process is to evaluate the program. It is necessary to have a program evaluation because it brings the results to light. In order to meet the well defined goals and objectives of program planning, it is essential for human service programs to have feedback on the effectiveness of the services they are providing so they can continue to satisfy their consumers. Program evaluation is needed so workers can remove anything from their program that was not needed, or add more attention to another direction of the program.
Through the two strategies, cited in the text “The Innovator’s Solution” by Christensen, Raynor, & Anthony, I believe that an emergent strategy should be taken at Dana Hall case, because its not clear what the right strategy should be and it is hard to read the future. “Emergent strategies are responses to unanticipated opportunities, problems, and success that were unforeseen in the deliberate strategy-making process.” (Christensen, Raynor, & Anthony, 2003) To conclude, Elaine Betts, after listening to the school committee, should manage the school in a way in which she will be applying theories and principles to improve the school growth, and maintain this well known and widely respected academic institute. Critical Thinking in the Decision Making Process Introduction Making decisions is something each of us is faced with on a daily basis and regardless of the complexity of the decision; we must establish a method that will produce a positive outcome. Before a decision can be made a problem must be identified and addressed. Applying critical thinking skills to a problem set allows a person to step through a process towards making a well informed decision. Paul and Elder define critical thinking as “the art of thinking about thinking while thinking in order to make thinking better. It involves three interwoven phases: it analyzes thinking, it evaluates thinking, and it improves thinking” (p. xvii).
The Decision We all face and make difficult decisions in our life. It is seemingly the way life works. You make a decision to go to school, to better yourself, progress in life in order to become more successful or you choose to join the gym to become physically fit. Whatever the decision is, sometimes it comes easily and other times is does not. A decision that was difficult for me was choosing to pursue my Master’s degree through an online program, particularly, University of Phoenix.
Importance Critical thinking is an important element of all professional fields and academic disciplines (by referencing their respective sets of permissible questions, evidence sources, criteria, etc.). Within the framework of scientific skepticism, the process of critical thinking involves the careful acquisition and interpretation of information and use of it to reach a well-justified conclusion. The concepts and principles of critical thinking can be applied to any context or case but only by reflecting upon the nature of that application. Critical thinking forms, therefore, a system of related, and overlapping, modes of thought such as anthropological thinking, sociological thinking, historical thinking, political thinking, psychological thinking, philosophical thinking, mathematical thinking, chemical thinking, biological thinking, ecological thinking, legal thinking, ethical thinking, musical thinking, thinking like a painter, sculptor, engineer, business person, etc. In other words, though critical thinking principles are universal, their application to disciplines requires a process of reflective contextualization.
